Re: Old Time Crooners ....

I used to like Guy Mitchell, a lot. I suppose you might call him a crooner but his songs were "bouncy".

I am now going to admit to something I'm rather ashamed of that not many people know about - so keep it quiet. I think I was 12 when this record came out and I thought the song and the singer were just wonderful. I even had a picture of the singer on my bedroom wall for a while. The song was Unchained Melody. The singer was Jimmy Young!

Cool Re: Old Time Crooners ....

If you are referring to Jimmy Young, WillowTheWhisp, (he got knighted, didn’t he?) wasn’t it something to do with cooking? Something like, “What’s on the menu today?”

He used to introduce “Housewives Choice” on the Light Programme at 9:00am on weekdays and had a cookery spot.

Cool Re: Old Time Crooners ....

OK! I’ve got it right this time.

Raymondo in that squeaky Smurf like voice would ask “what's the recipe today, Jim?” So it wasn’t actually Sir Jim’s catchphrase.

And it wasn’t during “Housewives Choice” but on Radio 1 & 2 at the same time until it became exclusive to Radio 2.

Actually I never rated him as a singer but his Radio 2 programme at noon on weekdays was not to be missed. When Jim retired Jeremy Vine took over the slot.
