Children's arts programme from the seventies.

It was aimed primarily at deaf children, and was the first mainstream programme to have sign language. It was co-presented by Tony Hart.

The woman pictured always used to say 'we are sorry we cannot return your pictures, but for all those we show, we'll give a prize', before the camera panned to the art work in the 'Gallery'.

I thought it was rubbish at the time, and never wasted a stamp.

If someone was to make a big model of this logo and stick it say, on top of the Coppice....what would it be called? And would it be popular?

Re: Olympic Logo

I'm lucky enough to own one of the artist's earliest works.

That's a early piece of neo-criptistte script surrounded by a cubists oblong, in short a masterpiece compared with the new Olympic Logo.

Even we wouldn't be interested in putting that pile of rubbish up there!

But if we had it would have been an eighth of the cost.

Re: Olympic Logo

Today I heard Sebastian Coe defending the logo on the radio.

He described it as 'street' and 'happening'.

Err...no, it isn't.

Maybe graffiti art was street and happening in '76, or at a push 1980, for the Olympics in Montreal, or Moscow respectively, but not now.

The design of this logo is equivalent to 'Dad dancing' at weddings.

Nah ... it's too good, makes too much sense, and won't be controversial. If this was accepted all kinds of crazy things would start to happen. People would elect intelligent and honest politicians etc. ... sanity would break out in all the wrong places.

Actually, the logo looks a lot like a map of Canada with the Great Lakes in the wrong locations.

Re: Olympic Logo

Must admit Panther, did rather like that one which they used for the bid and wondered why was not carried into the actual logo. One that nobody could dislike I suppose, maybe that was the point .. too banal .. and have to think 5 years from now. Our 13-year olds will be 18 then and have a different perspective of design likings as technology advances and bombarded with more geometrical-type images.

Guess the younger ones in the main will be the buyers of all the souvenier off-shoot products.

None of us are clever enough to second guess what will be 'in', and what will be 'out', by the year 2012.

The Olympics is supposed to be based on a tradition of fair and equal sport for all, so what is wrong in this case instead of trying to be 'trendy', why could we not have just had a logo that reflects the high principles of the games themselves?

Or are we just doing this for the money????
