Re: One Down - Several to Go!
Looks like this tree (ex tree) has become a pilgramige for Accy webbers.. had more photos taken of it than Kate Moss.. what next? do we all pile down there and walk round it humming harikrishna chants?

Re: One Down - Several to Go!
I know what you and everyone else is getting at willow.. but the amount of reaction to this tree is bordering on obsession.. the tree got broke.. windows are smashed in.. people are afraid to walk down to the shops after dark ( and thats around 6pm) kids knife other kids.. I don't think the tree means that much.

Re: One Down - Several to Go!
It's only recently been planted in the latest doing up of Broadway. Of course it matters. That doesn't mean that murders muggings and break-ins don't mean anything but just because these other awful things happen does it mean we should turn a blind eye to wanton vandlism and the length of time it took anybody to shift the dead chunk?
Perhaps if vandalism could be nipped in the bud (pardon the pun) then they wouldn't go on to commit worse offences.
We just happen to care about the town. Anything wrong with that?

Re: One Down - Several to Go!
A tree gets broke.. ok it may be an example of what people see as "chavs" destruction.. but it's just as likley to be a 40yr old drunk..but this has turned into a sort of shrine..A broken tree does not mean the end of civilisation.. get things into percepetive..... "get me at lunchtime?" Katex..typical talk from people who feel they have "chat forum power" ..its not real.. do it mugchops.

If everyone thought like you, we'd be living in a sh*t tip.
It may only be one tree, but it's indicative of the mindless attitude of a few, who spoil the quality of life for the majority.

Re: One Down - Several to Go!
I don't want to live in a "**** tip" and no one else does.. I'm saying that the tree is a down dumbing call to arms as if there's nowt else to highlite this week.. it really is sad to see "the tree" in all its agony when people have died in your area.
the tree seems to take over all of your time.. waht about real issues like run down areas and the violence in this accy?

Eeew hek, that got him goin ! pity you didn't 'add you and whose army'
Just that the oak trees were meant as a symbol of Accrington, if you care to read our history, and was important to a lot of us. There are always other more serious crimes to attend to I know, but you can't relate it to this vandalism. I thought it represented 'our town' full stop and was a good effort to bring back a little bit of pride to the town, that is why I find it extremely sad.
Do I have 'mugchops' ??

Do get a sense of proportion dear boy. It's only people interested in their local environment in one thread out of many on a local forum for local people. One thread doth not a sacred relic make.

If you read through the recent threads Mancie, I think it becomes clear that we do care about all the other issues as mentioned above too.

The two things are connected, it's a modern day allegory, a bit like the man with an acorn for a brain.

Re: One Down - Several to Go!
I can assure you I don't need a lesson in the history of Accy.. the original pic of this tree was justified but the resulting post are an example of certain people tring to run down accrington.. there are poeple on this forum that have seen far worst examples of disregard for there community and I still say this tree is small fry compared to the problems Accy has.
