Our venerable MP

I was thinking yesterday that with our General Election coming up probably in May that I should start considering my allegience. So as I have queried with Mr. Pope on a couple of occasions I decided to email him and ask him to provide a list of how he has voted(and how often) on the issues discussed this term of office. I also pointed out that this is the sort of information he should publish in the Observer for all to see. From his musings I get the impression that he votes with his own conscience and not necessarily any concern for his constituents views. Lets see what he believes in so I( and others) can make our mind as to whether we want him to represent us again. I will publish any response here.

(I received an Out of Office Reply from my email, He says hes back on teh 5th Jan)

Look forward to seeing that response. I've had a few bits of correspondence with him over the years and usually if he agrees with me it's fine but if he disagrees it's just a load of waffle.

Re: Our venerable MP

Speaking of waffling, has anyone else read Pope's worthy pontifications on the Asian Disaster in the Observer this week (p.36)? Whatever else we might accuse him of, original thinking certainly is not one of them. All of his sad and predictable litany is cribbed and cobbled together from the output of various other commentators. All of whom managed to express themselves with a degree of compassion, force and impact that Comrade Pope can scarcely even aspire to.

Performance: 1 out of 10. (and that only for the New Year's greeting, at the end.)

Re: Our venerable MP

I haven't read it but I don't envy any politician or anyone trying to think of something to say. I'm sure that whatever he said someone would have had some criticism.

I remember the hue and cry when the Queen didn't come "home" following Diana's death but stayed at Balmoral for a little while. I thought that staying there with her grandchildren was probably far more valid than returning to Buckingham Palace for the benefit of the general public.
