They said that was not going to happen. The Peel Memorial is too important to the town. Peter Beard originally suggested it ages ago but he repeated it at the meeting as a joke at his own expense - I think he's realised the error of that joke long ago.

I hope he`s a better "artist" than he is a comedian...or he`d be first on my gallows

Just because a small number of people at a meeting in Huncoat were swayed does not mean that we would all like this so called 'art work'.
The meeting at the Town Hall was to 'talk up' the project....... and while, as Uncle Mick observed, they did a passable job.......I was not convinced.......and I was not applauding. I, like many other contributors to this thread wish that a proper plan of regeneration could be formulated. So far all that has been put forward seem to be pipe dreams and 'top dressing'.
I would not hold my breath for the money the Panopticon project is supposed to generate. But, I think that the project will go ahead no matter what the general public in Accrington think. Oh, yes and I have raised my objections to as many people in authority as will listen.

Re: Panopticons

More panopticon shenanigans;in Th'Observer today apparently the tide is turning and the public are being won over after the meetings last week;BUT on the letters page there is a missive stating that no Observer representative was at the meeting!!!How can they report something they weren't party to??Hmmm, this whole thing is getting more suspicious by the day!

There's a full report from the meeting on the Hyndburn Life website. Accy Obs with their usual investigative reporting have probably just copied it from that.

No, don't work for the council either. I do have contact though and I was pointed to that site myself earlier today because I wondered how the Observer reported about something they didn't attend.
