Pasty Tax

It's always amusing to see a Government minister, briefed up to his eyeballs by a spin doctor, coming on to Sky news to justify the U turn on pasty taxes and VAT on static caravans., and slowly unravelling before our eyes. No idea who he was, but he was one of those sharp suited Toryboy clones from a safe seat like Hertfordshire North South Central.

"It's a sign of strength that a Government is listening to the electorate when it proposes measures in the budget for consultation, and is able to react when it receives adverse reaction to those proposals" he purred, with an expression of self satisfaction that would have made Mother Theresa want to give him a slap.

Things went downhill after that.

"So the budget is merely a consultation document?' asked the interviewer..

"Er, no" said Toryboy with a faint look of horror, sensing the follow up questions on which he hadn't been briefed.

The interviewer sensed blood. "So given the universal opposition to the tax cuts for the rich, you will now be able to react to that and reverse the decision?'

Oh Dear. The spin doctors didn't cover that one..

Never mind. Revert to the old trusted soundbite about sorting out the mess Labour left us with. That always goes down well because nobody remotely knows what it means. Phew!

Panic over. Till the next time!

Devils Advocate - I'd rather my tax money was sent abroad and saved lives rather than stayed at home and was spent on special brew.

What? If the government cut overseas aid, they're going to buy us all special brew instead? Bring it on! I'll even stand outside the market hall and drink it for the added touch of authenticity!

Re: Pasty Tax

They speak with forked tongue!
If you check it you'll find there will be no VAT on pasties etc. which are hot because they've just come out of the oven.
However if they've been kept warm they will attract VAT! So if you want a hot pasty unless you time it as the oven is emptied it's cold pasty or pay VAT!
What a petty, childish, sneaky change to make.

So if you went into a chippy you would pay VAT as the pies and pasties are kept warm .
But if you go to Gregg's , They let the pasty cool down you don't pay VAT ?

So let me get this straight, if I'm fortunate enough to walk into Greenhalghs when one of their excellent steak & ale pies has just come out of the oven, I'll pay £1.55 for it. But if I walk in 15 minutes later I'll pay £2 for it...and this lot are running the country?

Re: Pasty Tax

What happens if you flog a pasty with a few chillis in it, say up to 10,000,000 on the Scoville Scale? That's enough to burn your arse out about 5 times over. Will that attract VAT or not? And if it does, will it be at 5 or 20%?

nope i definatly recall cameron saying his party would not do any u-turns on policey.

i dont know what the spin is on it though it maybe that they have veered back on themsleves or boomeranged on a few policies
