Re: patio heaters ban

Just another way to persecute smokers (and I say this an a non-smoker).

But most important of all, where will this law be decided? In the Houses of Parliament?

Not a chance...far, far away in the EU HQ at Brussels. And you reckon we still live in an independent country??? Of course we do, of course we do....

Re: patio heaters ban

The first time I ever came across a patio heater was about 20 years ago.We were staying in a town called Valkenburg in the southern Netherlands. Although it was early July, the weather was not too warm, but all the bars and restaurants had most of their tables outdoors, under 'sun canopies'. They all had signs outside which said that the had warm terraces - which ment that they all had, what would now be described as, patio heaters. At the time, I thought that this was a great idea, because it ment we could still sit outside with a drink, watching the world go by, and not feel the cold.

I can't really understand where they are coming from on this one.

Unhappy Re: patio heaters ban

This ban is another aftermath of the “No Smoking In Enclosed Public Places” law.

If the government had not bowed to the do-gooders and instead gone along with the sensible approach to smoking, that is allowing the owner of the building to decide whether smoking in it would be allowed or not, then the issue of Patio Heaters would never have arisen.

And just as importantly Brussels wouldn’t be poking their unwelcome noses in.

Re: patio heaters ban

it dont just persecute smokers, many elderly folk sit outside on terraces until midnight or so, in the winter months in spain, many go out for 4/5 months, as its claimed to be a "Green Issue" i assume that this legislation will apply to all the E.U. members? if thats so,i can visulise the spanish telling Brussels to get stuffed, can also visulise the "wet" british, bending over n going along with it.

Re: patio heaters ban

I agree with you Jambutty.

Next it'll be no smoking in you own house or you pay higher council tax as there's more of a chance of you setting fire to it, hence calling the fire brigade :-)

"Going Out" isn't what it used to be. It's quiet now a days and if you're a dirty smoker like me...cold.

Let's all just stay in and drink endless cans of cheap beer on the couch. That's good for your health and social life.

But when we all give up smoking, watch the price of petrol.
