Pause for thought.
I read with horror and dismay the front page story of this weeks Observer. An Oswaldtwistle mother of two, Marie Hartley, died last Thursday shortly after sending a text message to work colleagues to let them know she and her companion were safe, following the tube blasts. Marie and her companion then boarded the number 30 bus which later exploded in Tavistock Square. Marie was just 34 years old.
It seems incredible and unbelievable that something as awful as this could happen to one of our own.
I know all members and visitors would wish to join me in expressing our deepest sympathy.
Any further comment by me on this tragic loss would seem superfluous.

Re: Pause for thought.
These events will cast a shadow over many people for many years; the families of all the victims will be burdened with this grief for generations. This is to higher price for anyone to pay. A-B can you tell us if there’s any intention locally to hold a memorial service for Marie. My thoughts and prayers go out to her children and her family.

All I can add is my sympathy for the family. Words seem so totally inadequate.

Re: Pause for thought.
Well there was a similar story on the news about some man who was going to use the tube, but obviously due to the explosions was unable too, so he decided to get on a bus instead. Tragically this was the same bus that exploded, thus killing him.

Re: Pause for thought.
Doug,
I have no information about what the family intend to do regarding a memorial service. I imagine they will just want to try and keep it together for the funeral and are not really thinking much beyond that. Sorry I cannot be more help on this but if I hear anything I will post it.

Re: Pause for thought.
Thanks A-B, I understand fully. In view of the tragic events I suppose I expected there to be a community response and a locally held memorial service. Again, Thank you for your reply Bob.

Re: Pause for thought.
Many years ago, I worked with Marie's dad, & lived two doors away from the family. My kids are similar ages, and, although I have not been in contact with any of the family in recent years, I feel deeply for them. My sincere condolences to John, Barbara, & Marie's family. A sad loss indeed, in such tragic cicumstances.

Re: Pause for thought.
We live less than 100 yards from the bus blast. A couple of my neighbours have floated the idea that we should have a memorial in Tavistock Square to commemorate those who died. There are so many tragic stories. One really ironic thing is that Tavistock Square has a statue to Gandhi, who preached peace.

Re: Pause for thought.
I like the idea of a Memorial to those that lost there lives. These people, like all civilians are non combatants but still lost there lives resisting the onslaught of self righteous murderous ba****ds who are waging a war on unarmed and defenceless people. Those that died are the one’s who should be remembered and honoured. Did we not do the same for Yvonne Fletcher? Back in the eighties….
