Penny for 'em?

If i bought something that say costs £5,36 and i paid with a twenty pound note, i would say do you want the 36 p,most times they are glad of the change,and i would have £15 change instead of a load of bummph,,,and loose change dosent build up the same..

i have a Tardis money box well i say I, its Reece's really, i stick all my coppers,5's and 10's in it, it makes a lovely whirring noise when the doors are open (the dr who theme) not saving for anything, i used to take it to the bank before Reece decided he was more important than the bank

I do that, but I still end up with loads of coppers.

Plus when I get the Observer I'll usually pay for it with twenty six tuppences.

Like you say most shopkeepers are glad of the change, and it saves them keep going to the bank.

Perhaps I should set up a change bank for 'em.

At one point the value of the two pence was worth more due to its copper content, so if you have any of the older twopences get them weighed in as the price of copper is really high at the mo... of course the bank of england soon reduced the copper content

When we sold our last house I counted up all the loose change that we had kept in various places. I took it to as Asda where they have one of those machines which counts it up for you. This was easier for me than counting it up myself, bagging it and taking it to a bank. OK, you pay a percentage to the company but I still thought it reasonable value especially as I ended up changing over £200 worth of coins.

I must admit that I have become a bit of an obsessive over loose change now and try to make sure that we get rid of it before it builds up to much.

I normally just leave it in my purse and get rid of it like granny c. I have an old whisky bottle which came from Rising Bridge working mens club ... that tells you how old it is... and i'll throw bits and pieces in there. When that gets about half way full i'll stick it in bags and take it to the credit union and stick it in my account there.

My sister is best though. She has a tin and her and her then hubby used to throw their coppers and 5ps in there. When we used to have a family party we always ended up playing cards and the tin would come out ...... She still has the tin and now when we play cards the tin gets divvied up between us all and we play with that.

You are giving money away.
Watch those pennies and the pounds will look after themselves.
I spend using a cashback card and get .5%back in December.
Groceries just for me and the cat earn me £12 (on top of all the customer loyalty freebies such as Tesco points)
Think about it ..... would you go and throw £12 down a grate?

I knowingly paid the commission as the convenience of converting the coins was worth it. A reasoned judgment in other words. Was about to leave the UK for good a few days later so time was of the essence. Admittedly, if I had thought about it sooner I could have counted it all myself and taken it to the bank.

I think you will find that quite a lot of our so called copper money, has very little copper in it, try a magnet on a pile of 1p's.
