Penny for 'em?

Is it just me, or does anyone else end up with mountains of loose change?

I don't carry a wallet, and I throw all my change into a bowl.

I'm quite good now, as it's only a cereal bowl. At one time it was an old fashioned wash basin, filled to the brim with copper, and the odd bit of silver.

Every so often I sit down, count it, bag it up, and bank it.

I do struggle in shops now because I have Parkinson's Disease, and my fingers are now rubbish at finding the right change to give in shops, but I do normally make an effort, no matter how many people are queued up behind me.

I can't really blame my present physical conditon, as I've always managed to accrue quite literally sometimes, tons of change.

I know people who never have more than a pound or so of change to their name, so am I doing something wrong, or does anyone else end up with more coppers than the Policeman's Ball?

My tyler takes donations of loose change and it goes into his dalek piggy bank and buys him something nice i wouldnt be able to afford every so often.... i dont miss coppers and it soon mounts up

he empties my purse of 20ps and anything smaller... teaches him about money and is good numeracy practice

We have a penny jar, I regularly empty my purse into it, when full I take it to Asda and weigh it in, usually yields about £25 !

Brian tends to dump his loose change onto the kitchen worktop. I have my ´money factory´ where I bag up fifty, twenty and ten cent coins to take to the bank. It´s amazing how quickly they mount up and in a good month it pays for my adsl connection.

As for the ones, twos and fives............such a pain in the bum to bag up and don´t amount to much.............I pass on to the local stray dog fund.

Most weeks I only spend money twice a week, Mondays after getting my pension and Fridays when I do my weekly shopping.

Any one’s, two’s and five pence pieces that come my way get put into a separate pocket until I get home, when they get dumped in the appropriate money bag. When a bag feels about the right weight the contents get counted. If the one and two penny bags add up to one pound they get closed and any residue goes to start a new bag. If, as does happen on occasions, the total is less than one pound I slip a scrap of paper inside noting how much there is in the bag. There is no point in counting the same coins twice. It’s a similar story with the five pence pieces but the total is five pounds.

Once I have several full bags I take them to my bank and dump them in my account.

As for the rest of the coins I use many of them to pay part of my milk bill when my milk lady comes round once every five weeks on a Saturday morning. The £31.50 payment will usually have £1.50 in tens and twenties.

Anne and me have a little bucket we chuck 1p 2p 5p in when its full we count it and bag it and give it to the grandchildren when they come over.
there mum puts it in there bank for them,they normally end up with £5-£7 each

read an article the other day saying due to the rise in international metal prices the 1 cent and 5 cent coins are worth more for scrap than for face value , know this applies to US and Canadian currency , no mention of Stering or Euro coins

I am a cash free person. Because I shop entirely on the internet I rarely need the stuff.
The only time I use cash is for the window cleaner,the free range eggs I get from the allotment next door, and a cafe meal when on a bus trip.

So I don't accumulate change

1`s, 2`s and 5`s get saved in a money box then , like Lindsey,down to the machine in Asda.

All my silver(anything less that a 50p) goes into the boys money boxes and when they are full they are bagged and put into their bank account. Any copper goes into a small tin and when this tin is full it is weighed in a at asda when I do my shopping and the boys get a "treat" from it, be it a toy, new slippers, clothes etc

I have a big whiskey bottle and I put 1s 2s 5s 10s in it I also save 50ps £1 coins £2 coins as they come in handy when you use a lot of taxis like I do, but if I get to much change I stick it in the bank

how much does the machine at asda actually take off you -and does it take it automatically or do you have choice - when the machine first arrived at asda somebody said that a percentage is donated to a charity.
i keep meaning to have a look but only remember about it when i get back home lol so i tut at myself and think - oh i'll look next time !?!

I have a tin in the kitchen that some loose change goes into and a box on my dressing table - depends on where I am when I remember to dispense with loose change!

Kids get their spending money out of it each week and the rest just stores up and then once a year I tip it all out and count it and bag it.

I bought my son one of those coin sorters for Christmas a couple of years ago, we just throw all the change in and it sorts it for you!

Have been just the same in the past Garinda; now I am trying to put a few of the coppers from my box in my purse when I go out small shopping to run it down, and don't care whether people are puffing and panting behind me whilst I 'copper up'.

Amazing that we can afford to throw this money into a container isn't it ? Can't be too badly off after all. There again, probably me, I am not very good at saving, and seems ideal for some people ...

Still have a box of foreign currency, particularly Euro money ... not all airlines seem to collect spare change for charity now. Will just have to remember to take it with me in September.
