Perhaps The Memory Lingers On?

Ber999 Maybe it's because he was always mentioning the St John Ambulance that an incident today had me thinking.

I have been on allsorts of first aid courses to do with work, I thought, come the time I can cope, well today proved me wrong, sitting with friends a stranger stood up and fell onto the floor unconscious I was the nearest, so I went over to him, my mind racing, thoughts of what is the recovery position? How, if I need to, do I give artificial respiration?

Fortunately, as I gently took hold of his head to relieve the pressure on his nose he came back to us, then sat down and assured us it does sometimes happen to him, I'll be alright in a minute he claimed, (no shilleglie it wasn't an epileptic fit my sister-in-law had them I would have recognised it).

But whatever it was, it has now got me determined that I will go on a refresher course, after all we never know when such things will happen nor will we be so lucky that it turns out to be something so minor.

glad he was ok , even with training the heat of teh moment can stall you , i trained with saint johns ambulance for some years and even though it was quite some time ago the basics never leave your memory and even basic firstaid can be the difference between somone making it or not while an ambulance arrives

Less, i hope this thread makes us ALL think about doing a refresher course, i havent done mine since i was 18 and like you i would probably wonder what to do in a similar situation

Just a quick thought, in memory of ber999 perhaps if some of us from accyweb got together, we could all go together to The St. Johns for a refresher?

i need to go on a refresher course its at least 8 years since i did the last one. Seeing as im normally the recipient of first aiders ... well done less .. some people carry on walking past or panic or stand there watching. No one knows what they will do in an emergency situation until it happens.

PS Less when are you going to learn to spell the name right .. i've been here for 4 years!!!

He'll learn to spell it when you've hit him a couple of times with a Shilelee.

I was there and it did look like that,the man was only "out" for a minute or so after that he seemed quite normal.Certainly didn't appear to be drunk at all.

I am no medic but I would guess the chap just fainted. Low blood pressure can make you "black out" if you stand up quickly.

There was a girl at school who, on a regular basis, just fell to the floor, we were told just to leave her alone as she would come round in a short while, even so she never seemed to hurt herself. I bet there are a few members on here we were at the Holy Family in hose days remember her, but I can't think of her name
