i agree they should not be able to strike, what i am disgusted about, is the stance by a government that i have supported all my life.

Re: Police Pay Scales

The fire service pay scales are at Fire Service Pay Scales

£20,396 to £27,185 for a fireman.

The nurses scales are available but are much harder to work out. I had no idea that there were so many different types of nurses!

Re: Police Pay Scales

I think it’s a principal thing. As I understand it, the Police Federation and the Government failed to agree on the pay deal and so went to arbitration to in order to resolve the issue. The arbitration board recommended a 2.5% award the government accepted this. By not backdating the pay rise then the rise no longer stands to be 2.5% over the period. The Government has reneged on the deal as far as I can see. Apparently it’s not in the interests of the country to pay the 30million pounds or so in the current economic climate.

Strange that they can award asylum seekers a similar amount to return to their native lands to set up a business enterprise.

Re: Police Pay Scales

Pumping more money internally leads to higher inflation. I'm with Gordon, the economy comes first because with higher inflation theres no point having a higher wage!

If he just gives in, everyone else will think they can get the same rises.

That's life for us in the private sector I am afraid, it happens all the time when companies go back on 3 year pay deals etc. Most companies are trying to cut cost and improve efficiency every year. The only difference is if the Police was a private company in that position they would go bust. Public sector workers get pay rises by increasing taxes or reducing services elsewhere.
When do we ever see them improving efficiency? Have you tried to phone the Police recently, you can't even phone Accy Police station and talk to someone who actually knows where you live any more. I spoke to Greenbank last night and she did not even know who my CBM was when I asked for him by name. Hospitals, I had to wait ver an hour for my lads appointment, the time 9.20am. The following week we were seen 45 minutes late for an 8.45am appointment How can they be that late at that time, easy answer for you, the Doctor we were waiting to see did not stroll into the department until almost 10 past 9.

Also when you are looking at the above wages don't forget the benefits of excellent pensions, holiday, sick pay schemes etc.

Re: Police Pay Scales

Maybe the doctor who strolled in at 10 past 9 had been called away to an emergency prior to that?

Sorry, this is another thread wander but I know people waiting in A&E also sometimes don't realise that the people who treat them also get called away to emergencies who arrive by ambulance and don't pass through the waiting area.

Back on the subject of Police Pay - I'm presuming that when this was all looked into by the independent arbitration that the Government had chance to put forward its case for being too skint to pay out and yet the final deal was arrived at. That should have been it.
