Question Policeman's Helmets

This is a genuine question. My daughter has just asked me and I couldn't answer it adequately

Does anyone know why policeman's helmets are designed as they are? She was mainly asking about why constables helmets are so tall and have the pip on the top ...... but when I gave her my theory of why it could be, she pulled the sergeants flat peaked ones out as a trump card to throw my theory right out the window.

Re: Policeman's Helmets

Apparently the reason it's shaped that way is to cover a male streakers modesty

And just clear the way for the queue of women who want to meet the man who fits into a policeman's helmet.

Ooops, I'm not supposed to be posting on this thread.

Too make the policeman look taller as he is more likely to be in dodgy situations than a sergeant, who as a rule in those days stayed in the police station, they also had various designs to distinguish the different members of forces. Bumblebees Lancsdave.

Wasn't worried about offending you Tinkerbelle, know it takes more than that. Just referring to discussion I'm having with Ianto on another thread.

Re: Policeman's Helmets

I think the size issue is just wishfil thinking on your part ladies. The pip is a strong point and is protective as is the shape. It was designed so that bobbies could be knocked on the head without being knock out.........I think.

Would you like me to come over and demonstrate
