politics

Whether you like local politics or loathe them do you think that the labour party idea of the people of Hyndburn been able to voice their opinions at the council meetings meetings by sending a written letter then been able to read out their opinion or have it read out at the council meetingis a good idea or just a political gimmick.

I'm going to email them whole threads from Accy Web, so they can be read out...for the few who haven't seen 'em already.

Re: politics

I suppose as an idea it gives residents a voice in local politics, they might feel they don't otherwise have, and fits in with the idea of accessibility, and openess.

In theory, I suppose it is a good idea. Anything that gets the local electorate to connect with politics has to be a step in the right direction.
On a practical note, if it interferes too much with council business than it won't be very helpful.
Maybe they will allocate a set amount of time to deal with issues brought up in this manner.

It already has, Marg. There will be a new 30 minute slot for Question Time and any questions which there is not time to answer during that period will recieve a written response. Openness and greater interaction with the public are the new watchwords, the lengthy point-scoring debates of the past with political posturing and pantomime dames are over.

Sorry if that disappoints any of you.

That'll probably only disappoint the few who support 'community art' in Hyndburn.

Ah, you mean the woolly thinkers?

Perhaps we can throw sweets into the audience at each council meeting, a nod to the past?

I'm sure that'll be appreciated by supporters of 'community arts' in Hyndburn.

Could even be seen as a piece of performance art.

Plus, with funding cut, the sweets will mean they won't starve.

No, it pleases me greatly that there is going to be a climate of openness and transparency, where people can air their views without being shouted down.
Bring it on.

Everyone loves a sweetie, particularly a panto dame. I used to be a great lover of those shows which transported you to a magical land of fabulous riches and fairytales, something that only children could believe in.

Sadly, a group of big bad wolves are advocating the loss of golden egg-laying geese, magical kingdoms and selling old cows for a handful of beans.

I fear that the cries of 'it's behind you' in Hyndburn will only refer to political careers from now on.

Shouldn't that read 'silly cows'?

You trying to get me sued for libel? Oh no, I remember now, it's already happening.

I would never refer to anyone in such a way in a public forum, it would mark me out as a very poor politician if I had to resort to insults as a way of getting my point across.

Yours ever, the Bald-Headed B****** from Rishton.
