Pope Idol

No one opened a Pope thread yet?

The contest is on to replace Benedict XVI. Over the coming months I hope you will join the discussion here for all the back stage gossip and rumours as the race to the Vatican hots up.

Remember, the vacancy is open to ANY male catholic, celibacy optional. Auditions open 1st March @ Sistine Chapel.

1 months notice is all he's given them, they'll have to do some heavy investing during that time to be able to give him a decent retirement fund.

For those of you who fancy a little wager, put a few bob on Marc Cardinal Ouellet

Re: Pope Idol

Saint Malachy prophesied that this 'last pope' would be black and named Peter.

It just so happens that the betting favourite is Ghanian Cardinal Peter Turkson

Cardinal Turkson seems to have some positive ideas about the threat of Islam in Europe. We certaily don't need a "hug-a-jihadist" kinda guy.

But Ouellet would be a good choice ... after all, there is a Canadian heading the Bank of England; so, why not the Catholic Church

Re: Pope Idol

To quote the Prophecy of St Malachy:

In persecutione extrema S.R.E. sedebit Petrus Romanus, qui pascet oves in multis tribulationibus: quibus transactis civitas septicollis diruetur, & Judex tremędus judicabit populum suum. Finis.

(In extreme persecution, the seat of the Holy Roman Church will be occupied by Peter the Roman, who will feed the sheep through many tribulations, at the term of which the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the formidable Judge will judge his people. The End.)

The first paragraph is Latin (but you knew that).

I don't see any mention of the skin colour of the pope?

I didn't know there was a Rome in Ghana either. Or does Peter the Ghanian translate as Peter the Roman? My Latin isn't very good.

As you're an atheist your comment could appear slightly biased. The smiley doesn't soften it either.

Ahhhh! I see. Far too subtle for me, MargaretR.
I still don't see where a black pope called Peter from Rome comes from.

The term 'black pope' is attributed to the chief cleric in the jesuit order, and signifies the deviousness of that branch of the church.

Malachy didn't say 'black' but there have been others who 'foresaw' and did.

I don't want to search for a link for you because I find websearching religion sets my teeth rather.
