Re: Post Deliveries
as ours is a "road" we regularly get letters for a "street" of the same name as our road, postcodes are entirely differant, many of em are from banks or financial institutions, i have reposted em, delivered em if i'm up that way, complained to the GPO, still the same, this has gone on for last 6/7 yrs i have been here, i suppose if i opened em i would have these poor buggars details, its been gone down the pan for years has the postal service.

In 1800s london there was no such thing as the internet or emails.
I work for royal mail and yes the service may be poorer but thats down to the management at the very top who come up with these stupid ideas so they can save money but they ruin the service,The postal times have changed to an hour later quite recently ago and alot of deliveries have been changed and also made longer. The time you get your mail just depends where you are on the posties route as somedays i start posting the mail at my first house at 10am but don't get to the last one until 2pm or even later sometimes if its really busy.I can agree with you all though that some of the posties are pretty shoddy,we have a few at our office(Me not included)

Re: Post Deliveries
Having work for RM for more years that I care to remember (not any more though, I've left) most of them involved in management I have some qualification in explaining what has happened to deliveries recently. I am not defending the business at all here but just to offer a little background info:
Since around 1995 and until the introduction of the single daily delivery (last couple of years) the average number of letters being taken out on 2nd delivery was eleven, predominantly second class letters with a combined revenue value (price of the stamps) of around £2. A postmans hourly rate would be for arguments sake £7.50 and he / she would have around 2 hours paid time left in the day to deliver these 11 letters. Simple maths dictates that the second delivery was no longer viable.
Massive improvements in national distribution networks mean that presently there is no mail available for what was once the second delivery. In order to maintain full time posts for staff the only option was to extend deliveries from 2.5 to 4 hours spans. Your postie no longer has to get up at 4am as most now work a more conventional day. The customer percecption is valid, espescially if you once got an earlier delivery, However Pillar Box to doorstep quality is higher than it has ever been. Unfortunately misdeliveries remain a problem, perhaps better training in needed.
Hopefully I have shed a little light on a sensitive issue.

Re: Post Deliveries
I was just going to say that I have a friend who is a post man and they start a lot later these days than they used to and he also covers a bigger area so if you're at the end of a route you'll get your delivery late in the afternoon. Ours comes anytime between 2:30 and 3pm but sometimes I'm sure he must do it the opposite way round and we get an earlier delivery.

Re: Post Deliveries
Well today i had 2 deliveries. Only saw one delivery - postman was wearing a royal mail jacket and carried a bag - posted the Lancashire County Councils Vision along with some junk mail, then had to go out and didnt get home till near enough 5 so dont know what time the post came. Thing is why didnt they deliver them both together? I know all the houses get a copy of the vision and there are quite a few houses. But whats wrong with using a van - parking it up and delivering all the post together.
I had to deliver some books across the road to a friends and also had to go up to brothers. Anyway walked round the corner outside the post office and a postman was stood there 1 minute to 5 with post box open waiting for 5pm before he emptied the post box. By the way i did look at my watch as walking past the post office. Thats why i knew what time it was.

Re: Post Deliveries
I thought the junk-mail type deliveries were done on an overtime basis, that would explain why they don’t deliver everything in the one drop. Could be wrong though.

Margaret i was watching the bloke the delivering the vision - he was just posting the vision and the other bits and pieces that came with it one was offering me a mortgage, another was about the warmfront grant, sky tv and hilary blinds.

...and is delivering my post by 11.10 a.m.
Perhaps wearing shorts means he doesn't hang around long in this chilly weather, and finishes his round in record time.

Re: Post Deliveries
One day the Post Office will find a way of delivering mail to every single person at the same time of the day.
Until then the poor old postie has to start somewhere and to finish somewhere so someone will get their mail early and someone will get their mail late.
Some posties might be trying to be fair and reversing their round on alternate days.
You lot should just quit moaning and be thankful that you don’t have to go and collect your own from a ‘Box’ office. You would have something to moan about then.
