Just a thought but if businesses got their mail last thing of the day would that be considered an early delivery for tomorrow? After all if there is a mail delivery as the employees are all going home, no one is going to turn round and go back just to attend to the mail. So it is ready to be attended to first thing in the morning.
All this complaining about the mail arriving mid or late morning or even afternoon is a load of nonsense. If people really have a mad desire to complain about the mail then they should direct the complaints at missing mail, posted at the wrong address and having to check the size of the envelope before affixing a stamp.
The real point here is we still get our mail delivered to the door come rain or shine, even if once in a while it is next door or up the road.

Could start here jaysay and work your way through it.

I am not bothered what time my mail comes to be honest, only bills and useless information these days. We are our own worst enemy now in this with communications the way they are through the Internet and Text messages, etc.
Nevertheless, Birthday/Anniversary/Sympathy cards are personally important to us and impertive that they do arrive on time. I bet the Royal Mail has made a fortune this Christmas out of the larger than specified size envelope laid down .. lots of people I know have been caught on the hop, and have had to go and collect from their local sorting office to pay the extra £ 1+ including the price of petrol/bus fare maybe.
I was caught out sending a birthday card (including a voucher .. credit card type) in my daughter's card. Sent 1st class to Yorkshire on the 2nd Jan. as birthday was on 3rd. Did look at the card carefully and was not oversize. Didn't think too thick, and have no scales to check that the weight was below 100 g.
Was a little worried because she had not rung to thank me for pressie.
On the 5th January card was posted through her door re. excess postage .. did state 'card' on the type of letter. It could only be mine. Due to work she is not able to get to the sorting office during the day, so paid penalty on the Internet. Came on the 9th. The only thing I was angry about was the fact that she did not get any notification until the 5th and was posted 1st Class .. she thought I had forgotten her.
Perhaps card manufacturers may begin my selling with a warning that this card is oversize for standard 1st class post.
Check your Valentine's card folks or your sweetheart may finish up paying the excess and don't think would do your relationship any favours..

Re: Post Deliveries
This isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I have always treated appointments and birthdays as on the day/time in question I would be boarding a plane for that once in a lifetime holiday. In other words I MAKE SURE that I am there well before time and so is the card that I send. If it means me arriving early and having to sit around or the card arriving a day or two before the event, then so be it.

Now there’s an idea that is worthy of some merit.
You buy what is obviously an oversize card, put a 1st class stamp on it and send it to the manufacturer. This would highlight quite distinctly the problems.

You right Jambutty .. did think about this as her birthday is just after the New Year and there was a weekend to contend with too, and maybe backlog from Christmas.. people collecting all their cards from the sorting office ..
My son also posted her card on the 2nd from Didsbury and didn't arrive until the 4th .. so will know better next year..

Re: Post Deliveries
Postmen and women work a lot harder than a lot of people realise, I bet that half of the moaners on here are snuggled up in a warm bed when the posties have been at work a few hours. They have to sort there mail, prepare it for delivery, then get to the start of the round. Posties arent allowed out of the office untill 10 ish these days, it used to be a lot earlier, but the voices from above changed that. If they are lucky the weather isnt to bad, oh sorry it rains most days. The bags are heavy and bulky and dispite what people think a postie usually has about 8 to 10 bags of mail, not just the one people see them with. A first class stamp does not mean next day delivery, and people have never been given a set time for there own individual mail to be delivered. Posties have had to go with the changes in the work place, ie start times, finish times. The fliers people get ie hillarys blinds, vision, have to be delivered my the post, this is not paid as overtime. If anyone thinks they can help improve the sevice perhaps they should apply for a job in royal mail. As long as you are fairly fit, can get up early and work in ALL weather conditions you shouldnt have a problem. The posties have my full support, and unless you have done the job and know exactly what it entails think yourselves lucky we have a postal system.

I think you will find reading through the thread that people were asking why it's changed and critiscised the system not the individual postie.

Re: Post Deliveries
Found this on royal mails website:
First Class mail is our cost-effective solution to delivery the next working day.
So if first class is not to be delivered the next day why has royal mail said that?
http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/c...1&catId=400029
theres the link if you want it.
I was only asking if anyone else had a delivery like mine and if theyd noticed a difference since before christmas - it isnt me having a go at the postie - my own niece is one at Rawtenstall and has been for many years.

Re: Post Deliveries
If I post my First Class item early in the morning, is it guaranteed to get there the next day?
Although we aim to deliver mail the next working day, we cannot guarantee delivery times. We recommend our Special Delivery™ 9.00am service or Special Delivery™ Next Day if you want to guarantee next day arrival.
this is what is actually says.
