Re: Pot calling the Kettle
I don’t condone this form of policing the world; the problem is that if this is true, “and they are admitting that these flights take place” we all have something to worry about. Is this not the same as happened in countries like Argentina back in the 70s? Suspect just being lifted and disappearing? Did we not supposedly fight two wars in the Middle East because Saddam remove his opponents in similar way? The thing that separates us from the average despot is the Rule of Law, when we become above the law, we become despots in our own right do we not. Mr Bush may be becoming a little tyrannical is his approach to his war on Terrorism and is fast becoming a Terrorist in his own right. Where do we draw the line and when should we accept that the rule of law fails in it primary task? And sanction the Americans self imposed right to be policeman, judge and Jury. Don’t get me wrong I do believe that we should spare the system the expense of suffering a terrorist to live in our prisons, a bullet is the only true defence against a person bent on mass murder, but who are the Terrorists now?

Re: Pot calling the Kettle
You know its just a bunch of crap, some left wing articles that appear here and there then someone jumps on the band wagon and its a slow news day and someone has to explain in short sentences and one sylable words that really it a load of horse sh it. The only people that actually belive it are daily star readers and they belived a world war 2 bomber landed on the moon.

Re: Pot calling the Kettle
But what would we do if they didn’t publish this Horsy doo’s in the first place. I believe that the bomber that landed on the Moon was a Lancaster MK III and the crew all bailed out safety over Lapland and taught Santa air to air evasion techniques when flying in Iraqi airspace. Aircraft recognition was never an American strong point…

Re: Pot calling the Kettle
American battle tactics "shoot first ask questions later" gets them in a bit of bother but nobody does anything about it.

Re: Pot calling the Kettle
Are you suggesting that various European allies get together and sort them out?

Re: Pot calling the Kettle
Maybe I should have worded it as "lets get them and worry about it later. Cant imagine the CIA having that much power to do as it pleases without someone in Washington knowing or suspecting something. Even the Americans cannot just fly out to were they please and "borrow" a few people for questions on terrorism as it sticks the international sign of displeasure up to their own govenment and laws. It also would hint at one law for them as the superpower and a different one for everyone else in the world wether friend or foe.

Re: Pot calling the Kettle
The word superpower is a bit of a joke really. They are the largest single power certainly, however, they are far from powerful whe compared to the Empires of the last century and further down the time line.
It is also worth noting that the so called gap between 1st and 2nd and third and so on is also not as great as the Americans would have us believe.
Whilst as noted they are the largest power at the minute they have only really held that position since the end of Yeltsin's reign and the collapse of the Soviet Union, so we are talking less than 15 years. In the grand scheme of things this is nothing!
I very very much doubt that the US will be the sinlge most dominant forcre in 20 years from now!

Re: Pot calling the Kettle
China is sneaking up quietly behind the Americans in all ways yet do they realise the meaning this will have 20 years from now. Will we have another cold war with USA/Europe on one side and China/Asia on the other? If we do it will make the last cold war look warm. There is a lot of muscle both financial and military in Asia at the moment and a few have grudges.

A direct descendent no less, but actually a development of the Avro Lincoln. A beautiful aircraft, if a little boisterous in the noise department.

There is no doubt some truth in that Geoff.
However, did you know that the four largest EU countries Germany, France, Britain and Italy together considerably outnumber the US in terms of population, ecconomics, Naval, Air and conventional ground forces!

Can you trust France and Italy to come up with the goods if required in a USE? I doubt it.
