Has anyone else noticed how the price of things are going up in the supermarket,At Tesco,s Butter has gone up 20p a packet, flour has gone up about 35p,and it seems to be the norm at other shops too, we get eggs delivered to the door and the lady says they will be 25p dearer next week..its all blamed on the recent floods....

Re: prices going up with a bang

I hadn't noticed. I do my shopping online so I just tend to go down my list of usual items, clicking the things I want to re-order. I only look at the total, not the individual items. 20p is quite a lot for something to go up by all at once isn't it? All these 20ps will add up to quite a bit.

It will be the floods, but it's taken time to have an affect, then again if you chose to shop at tesco.

I can't say I've been taking a lot of notice but I will certainly have my eye on the ball on Thursday when I go to Asda. Forewarned is forearmed or so they say.

Re: prices going up with a bang

Why would the floods have affected the price of these items??.. I don't recall seeing floating dead cows or hens during the flood, so why should butter and eggs soar in price? (edit).. I thinks it's the "poor" farmers pulling a fast one to make a few quid for xmas!

Grain crops were seriously affected by floods and so the price of animal feedstuffs increased

Haymaking for winter silage was not possible so farmers need to buy in animal food. Poultry farmers have always bought grain -hens do not live on worms alone

Sorry Margaret but I'm not convinced.. they don't do much haymaking for winter silage in places like Hull..someone is making a quick few quid and using the floods as an excuse.

Re: prices going up with a bang

one big reason for the worldwide price increases (not just in the UK) is that many farmers have jumped onto the bio diesel bandwagon , and are switching crops , dairy prices are going thru the roof because of a new Chinese Govt. policy of requiring milk to be available for all school children , they have the money to buy up supplies worldwide because they are making so much foriegn exchange on the cheap rubbish that the west buys .
