Problems at British Airways

Can anyone tell me why the management and unions seem so steadfast in destroying a once great airline , it seems every couple of months there are news stories about disruptions , lack of food, loss of passengers luggage etc.
As a national flag carrier BA is not just another airline it is also by extention a reflection of the countrys image , and at present it is not presenting a nice one.
I've used BA for nearly 40 years (infact it was BOAC in the early days) and they have allways had a reputation as a great airline, up in the top 5 along-side Lufthansa, Air France , Pan-Am and Cathay Pacific, all airlines with great safety records for the millions of miles flown .

Maybe there is a plot to shut the company down , and sell off the assetts to one of the many Russian billionaires who seem to prefer life in London than Moscow (wonder how so many of them manage to qualify for residence permits , since Russia isn't a member of the EU)

just my rant for the day

Re: Problems at British Airways

dont think theres a plot steeljack, just incompetant people theres still over 1000 suitcases at heathrow belonging to BA unfortunate passengers from the xmas fog cancellations. i have used BA many times over past 30 years, but only rarely nowadays, due to cost and i dont use easyjet or ryanair etc.to me its like many British companies, sadly going slowly down the pan.

Re: Problems at British Airways

i do think its BA shooting themselves in the foot - not so much the company as the management are - with increasing desire to cut costs etc to match the lo budget airlines they're cuttin corners wherever they can and cabin crew is just the latest line up to face the bullet

baggage handlers have been agencied out where b4 they were direct employed by ba foood tray ppl were BA operated till they tried cuttin corners and agencied it off too...

there was a time when workin for a BA was almost a priviledge. to work with a company who's image was second to none was brilliant but times have come and gone and they've fallen well behind. airlines like qatar, emrites, etihad wipe the floor in terms of customer relations customer satisfaction and importantly staff satisfaction.

BA shud decide what it wants to be - a budget airline or a luxury airline and then compete in that instead of trying to compete in both. BA has its own image and its budget dept shud have its own.
