Where did you decide to live until fairly recently?
Wasn't it that republic, just the otherside of the Channel?

Re: Queen to visit Accrington in May.
Even though I'm a republican, and expect to see the end of this monarchist system within my lifetime, I've nothing personally against the Queen.
Met her a number of times. Pleasant enough little frau.
I agree, she hasn't done much wrong, in sixty years.
However that's down to luck.
Having a head of state, decided by the lottery of birth, is antiquated, and undemocratic.
If we had an elected head of state for life, and the majority of people voted it should be the Queen, fair enough. Not a muff out of me.
However, having the democratic right to choose means we have the option of not having a pillock like Prince Charles as head of state.
Or Lord help us, one of his brothers.
Even worse, if some attack happened whilst all the present Royal family were gathered together, all you monarchists could find yourselves bowing and scraping to another German, who incidentally lives in France, with Princess Caroline, one Prince Ernst of Hanover.
Who is currently on the line of succession, but some would claim has a stronger claim on the throne than the Queen, through the Stuart line.
Long live the Republic!

No monarchy, no knighthoods.
Bring it on.

Re: Queen to visit Accrington in May.
So where's there to visit in Accrington, half the shops have or are shutting, we've charity, card & pound shops galore, not exactly a selling point to attract our monarch. Take her to the revamped train station, visit Accy Stanley, the new Tesco, im at a loss thinking of where/what she's going to be shown.

Since the Queen thinks the world smells of new paint, due to spruce ups, before she ever goes anywhere.
I wonder how much her visit will cost Hyndburn?
No matter where she ends up going, you can bet your royal bunting, there'll still be cars illegally parked, on certain stretches of Blackburn Road.

They might restore the missing benches for her royal buttocks to sit on.

I'd have an unelected pillock such as Charles as "head" rather than some of the pillocks we could end up with...Thatcher Brown Blair Boris Cameron..maybe Katey Price?
