Queens Pub
Heard a rumour yesterday that the old Queens in church is to re-open as a pub.Just wondering if anyone else has heard this,as no one seems to know what its supposed to be at the moment, and it would be good to have one opening in Church, instead of shutting down.

Re: Queens Pub
Bring it on... provided that the quality of the ale is as good as that of the late Stag.

Re: Queens Pub
Walk out of the front door of the Stag, up Henry St towards Blackburn Rd and take the first right, in the direction of Church Kirk. It is the big imposing building approx 70m along, on your left.
The last time I was in this establishment was one lunchtime quite a few years ago, for an 18th Birthday drink... A long time ago, eh, Royski?

Getting planning permission for any new venture in that area is difficult, EEC health and safety laws concerning 'hazardous' chemical plants come into play, that is the stumbling block with the Church Commercial Pub, sorry for drifting off thread.

I assume the chemical plant was there in the late 70's when they built the recently demolished houses accross from it at Walmsley Close ,so why where they built in the first place?Or has it all changed now because these health & safety laws are much stricter?

Once we embraced the EEC we had to take all the 'bull' that went with it, any 'new' planning comes under the rules laid down by the EEC, they have tried to get permission for a hotel next to the Commercial Pub to no avail, to be brief it is the number of persons allowed in a certain section, and the time it would take to evacuate the premises in time of crisis, IE a chemical leak. The commrercial could open as a pub again the permission already exists, the factory next door could trade again, Hyndburn have used this as an excuse to 'knock' planning back for others, it will be interesting to see what happens. Regards,Ianto.W.
