Re: Raf Told To Down Dress
The wearing of the uniform outside of a base should be allowed but for good reason and by permission only.
It was always nice to see members of the military proudly wearing their uniforms at weddings etc. I think those days are over and done with though.
In 2008 is it really wise to let every Tom Dick and would be terrorist know that you are in the forces ?

as i said in post 6, i think it should be at the descretion of the guys serving, i do not believe they should seek permission, if they are mature enough to go fight wars they are mature enough to make that descision.

In my opinion YES , and anyone , no matter what race or creed who gives them or their family any bother should be dealt with by the law, but only after the local community have finished with them . Its a sad state when a member of the forces cant wear his uniform on home vists because of a fear that some little tow rag will target his/her parents, that might be acceptable up the khyber pass and environs but not in western society .

Re: Raf Told To Down Dress
well this rule of not wearin a uniform isnt a new thing. many squads dont wear their uniforms out of the base since the days of the IRA. and that rule as stood since then. it was logical not to make them targets
and its still logical not to make them targets not for abuse but for somethign much more sinister. if they've caught one group of people willing to kill a muslim solider then maybe they're thinking lets go for A solider anyone. and if they're walkin around its like a target on their back.

You may have a point mani, but what a state of affairs, this is our country and people who don't agree with our way of life and defile our servicmen (who after all don't ask to go to these countries, they are following orders) have the answer in their own hands, there are plenty of airports and seaports which will take them back from wence they come

Re: Raf Told To Down Dress
I still stick by my thoughts, as discussed before, that unfortunately, due to the types of population entering our country, would make them a main target.
As in any business, the receptionist always gets the ear-ache first. If they were with their families, could endanger them too, etc.
Listened to a discussion on Radio ... one caller had an appointment in hospital at Peterborough; her hubby came later to join her. On the way four Asians in a car headed straight for him on the pavement, narrowly missing him .. they did it purposely. He was wearing an RAF uniform and had been in the forces for 30 years ! That seems to be a deep seated hatred, not just frolics.
Another caller put a twist on it too which was interesting. Servicemen going out on the town and getting more than a little tiddly will only incite other revellers to have a go at them and could cause friction and maybe bring their uniform into disrespect.
It would be lovely to see a serviceman walking down the street again in uniform, and sure lots of us would give them a great big clap, slap on the back as they passed. Those days are gone I am afraid where we get the opportunity to thank them face to face.

Isn't this what is wrong with our country now, we let people come here willy nilly without a by your leave. I have a friend who has emigrated to the States, because her daughter lives there and is married to a yank, her daughter has just been granted Amerian citezen ship, otherwise my friend would not have been able to stay, you have to be sponored by a US citezen to live in the US of A, but any Tom Dick or Harry can come here no questions asked, get a pat on the head and given a sugar lump, nice to see you to see you nice this way the DHSS
