But they are proposing to open it all the way through when the bus station is moved.

Re: Re-Opening Blackburn Road

The problem is more near where i live just round the corner there is a laundrette and a bit further on is a bus stop i have been walking to the bus stop on two occasions when a car had come out of china st and mounted the pavement to get to the laundrette they have to go past the bus stop on the pavement to get there one of these days someone is going to get hurt .
if i had not been rushing for a bus i would not have got out the way

Re: Re-Opening Blackburn Road

Lets be honest Mick all along Blackburn Road needs some serious policing. The laws are blatantly ignored by people parking on double yellow lines and driving on to the pavements. Is it going to take a fatality before action is taken?

Me and less have been standing at the front doors to the railway having a quiet cig and watching the traffic wardens giving tickets out but they wont go past the viaduct they ether turn back into town or walk up eagle street none go down Blackburn road

Re: Re-Opening Blackburn Road

That is where the problem lies no traffic wardens venture on there and the police just ignore the problem. Would hate there to be a serious fire on that way during the day the emergency services would struggle to get through.

It seems that if they hadn't shut the town centre to traffic we might not be in the pickle we are with loss of traders to me.

Don't think there will be a problem soon.... what with all the shops having closed:

Re: Re-Opening Blackburn Road

Too little too late, the town is dying on its butt, and if the powers that be think a letter to M and S will help , then I give up! Instead of begging them to expand into the old Woolies unit, they should be concentrating on begging them to stay! I have never seen the Centre looking so bleak, and I have worked there over 20 years. Not good at all.

Re: Re-Opening Blackburn Road

Pedestrianisation was just another craze and it's ruined Accrington, Blackburn, Burnley and Nelson. These towns often started where roads crossed and people built pubs/hotels to cater for travellers and their horses. All the paper shops, garages etc and now bypassed and the travellers go elsewhere. The way things are going you'll have to pay buisnesses to stay in towns and while on the subject of crazes "Traffic Calming" has probably caused more accidents than it's prevented and reduced parking availability
