And are you really upset that a 75 year old gets £2.88 a week free TV licence or a 65 year old £4.80 a week for heating(£2.40 each if there are 2 of you)? However much money they have?
Tell us what you mean by a 'wealthy pensioner'. Do you start with ordinary working people who saved a bit and work upwards from there? Tell us.

I don't now exactly! Polly Toynbee - Guardian Journalist stated that she is still earning and is getting all these "Pensioner perks" and she said her self she doesn't think she should be. How many are there like her? 500,000? 1,000,000? How much does it cost to administer free TV licences to people like her etc - what's the point in issueing bus passes that arn't used - isn't it a waste of plastic and postage etc.

Was thinking about this the other day.. Janet Street Porter was saying she did'nt need or use her bus pass.. if she don't use it then it's only the price of a stamp to the government... but if we start means testing everyone of pensionable age as to wether they need a bus pass it would cost millions in staff hours, paper work and postage.

You could be right... personally I'd like to see a "bus pass" over her head.. and reverse if possible. ![Smilie](http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

I don't know how many, I don't know exactly how many there are - but you must remember that the elderly population is increasing and there are not as many kids coming up behind them. This is a fact that we are constantly being told by various sources. So there is more demand on the state pension pot -so we are being told!
I personally think that cutting benefits all round is not a good idea - I was just pointing out that if your going to make someone pay 10% of their housing benefit after 12months on Job Seekers, then why give people money who have money in the bank. It's not how much that money is: it's the principle that counts.

so by your way of looking at things, yer saying working class people who have worked hard all their lives n paid taxes n saved etc, should not receive full entitlement? yer last names not Thatcher is it? ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)

Because anyone who finds themselves out of work in this country are scrounging scumbags... and if by any chance people find they can't do the work they have done for decacades because of bad or worsening health they are scounging scum...that is progress. ![Wink](http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif)

Because they've worked hard & earned these benefits !!! Seems like a viable reason !!! And what principle would that be exactly ? I'm sorry but your argument is just so much labor rhetoric & not a proper thought out argument. So your parents if they've got say 20.000 - 60,000 Quid saved in the bank somewhere shouldn't get anything in the way of state handouts (Telly Licence, bus pass etc) on principle ? Well that's the case you're putting across !
What about yourself ? I'm sure you'll feel the same when you come to retire, right alongside your Socialist Brothers & Sisters, marvelous your hard earned cash you'll gladly share with some lazy idle good for nothing who's never done a days work in his/her life through choice, because the State should look after them ! Well I won't be signing up to your Utopic dream thank you very much.

Re: reasons to hate the tories
Maybe there is a need for a radical change in politics in this country. The House of Lords can go the way of the dinosaurs for starters. An elected house that would have the same number of members as the Commons (which should be cut) as abalancing act. That way those in power cannot fill it with cronnies which all have in the past.

Its a wee bit surprising that the House of Lords, which was so hated by Labour when in opposition especially Two Jags, wasn't reformed over the last 13 years, but of course they wouldn't have been able to bring Mandy back to Run the Country if they had, then law and behold what happens the minutes they're out of power step up Lord Two Jags of Hull, hypocrisy personified ![Frown](http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif) ![Frown](http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif) ![Frown](http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif)

Re: reasons to hate the tories
Another thing that's not right is that expats can still get the winter fuel allowance whilst living abroad, Joan has a relative who now lives in the good old US of A and gets the winter fuel allowance every year, its wrong
