Re: reasons to hate the tories
The Tories and the Lib-dems claimed, before the election, that they were going to roll-back Labours attack on our Civil Liberties and the Survelience Society but it seems they are going to go ahead with plans to track all Internet use? Is this right if they do?
UK government to impose Orwellian-style surveillance

Re: reasons to hate the tories
Brave stuff Kestrel.. posting a link to a socialist web site .
But all this is no surprise seeing as Cameron's chief advisor was involed in tapping the phones of politicians in the run up to the General Election
David Cameron dragged into phone tapping affair involving aide Andy Couslon | News.

Re: reasons to hate the tories
I hate Theresa May's jackets.
Funny, overly wide, stand-up collars, and the length of sleeve. Not good for bingo wings.
Shoes are ok. In a tongue in cheek, tart with a heart, way.

I too pondered this change of heart. That so often happens, when journeying from the opposition benches, to the seats of government.
Though I did support Labour's policies, wanting more security powers.
Valuing life, over civil liberties any day.

That's what the Nazi's said and look what happened! They burned down the Reichstag, which was blaimed on the Communists and then Hitler brought in laws which took away peoples right to democracy. That won't happen here you say What quality of life?

Lol, that's a lame a hand as playing the racist card.
I suppose we'll just have to settle on the fact that 'civil liberties' are a matter open to subjection.
One man's civil rights defender, is another man's terrorist.

Maybe we should ban all religion, then we won't have people coming into this country with religous beliefs that may lead them to try acts of terrorism -then we won't need all this survelience. Because one form of freedom (religous freedom) seems to be leading to a form of attack on all our freedom and civil liberties!

If a civilisation decided everyone should have their own total liberty, there would be no contols in place to protect against the violent, the dishonest, those who saw childen as equal sexual partners, the racist, the sexist, the homophobic, and basically the downright insane.
They would all be afforded their own civil liberties, to carry on freely, as they liked, unhindered by any force of law.
Not a civilisation I'd particularly want to live in.

See, this is where you let yourself down.
For instance, the terrorists who bombed London were all born and bred British.
Agression, and hatred can be masked by many covers. Religion is just one of them.

Who's talking about total liberty to do criminal acts! I'm talking about someone taking away my rights to privacy just so someone has the right to follow a religion that is taking away my rights - because some people who adhere to that religion want to kill people because of it ( or so we are told). Then we are not allowed to mention that because it may offend that religion and those people who want to do us harm.

So you want a society in which all e-mails and so on are read by some kind of Government Censor, who catalogues and files everthing to check if anyone is up to no good and also perhaps taking note of people's political views and so on and keeping a record of it all. Bit like in George Orwell's book "1984!" Is that the kind of society you would like?

'Your rights'
Every single person, could bleat their own individual 'rights' are an important civil rights issue, even those who seek to harm others, in the process.
The biggest right is for the majority to feel, and be, safe.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it's an open secret that this already goes on and has done for many years at a complex in the wonderfully-named Blubberhouses.
I forget now exactly where they are but they look like two huge golf balls in the middle of nowhere.

Don't particularly care who reads what I write, or watches what I do.
I have nothing to hide, nor do anything to be ashamed, or afraid of.
