Re: Recycling changes!!
I don't have a garden, so composting is not an option.
I have to carry my blue box, my cardboard boxes, white bag and blue bag down 13 concrete steps to put them out for collection at the crack of dawn. - so being washed and dressed at that early hour is already an intrusion on my laid back lifestyle.
What I need to know now is whether I can accumulate my eggshells and crusts in plastic bags so that I can deposit food waste in this blue bin once a day, or will I have to make a trip down 13 concrete steps every time I crack an egg

The Australian firm which has won the £2billion contract will earn £400million over 25 years in interest repayments from the county. It has been predicted that council tax will have to rise by 14.5 per cent by 2012 to meet the costs.

Anyone else spot the 2 reasons this scheme should not happen?

Re: Recycling changes!!
these bins are going to stink to the high heavens in the summer if they are full of decomposing foodstuffs...just think of the flies and maggots..
I am all for leaving my blue wheelie bin the back lane - letting someone take it and not have one..they arent exactly going to police who has one and who doesnt..I dont have the space for one and with 2 dogs and a compost bin and a greedy toddler - we dont accrue much if any food waste..

Re: Recycling changes!!
Just had a knock at the door, and a rather attractive young man was on our avenue offering a service of bin cleaning. They come around every 4 weeks and completely cleanse the bin and leave it nicely smelling, with a choice of smells (take note MargaretR.. ). Only £2.50.
Haven't joined up yet, but have taken his card and am thinking about it, even though I wrap up all food left-overs, put them in another bag, and then everything goes in a black bin bag before disposing in the domestic bin.
Does get a bit smelly. Mmmm .. very enterprising ... will think about it.
