Recycling/charity.
Most of us will have now been issued with green recycling bags for textiles, shoes etc.
Does anyone know how HBC recycle these items?
Are they turned back into material, like some sort of felt? l suspect not because they ask for shoes to be in pairs.
Will charity shops miss out, because people will find it easier to leave goods in the bags, rather than carry them to a charity shop?

Re: Recycling/charity.
I think it's more thank likely they will sell the stuff on to companies who sell it on to other less well off countries just like charity shops do when they have too much stuff or they are rotating the stock. I do know that for every tonne I think it is they are making a donation to the north west air ambulance

Unsuprisingly HBC's website hasn't been updated yet.
It does mention that in the future, ie: now, they will recycle textiles, but it doesn't say what will happen to them, as it does with the other collected items such as glass.

That's the sort of information the council should be publicising on their website.

Re: Recycling/charity.
I told them it wasn't update when they were changing things round recently and now wanted us to put cans in blue bag instead of box, and they still haven't changed that either. It still says to put the cans in the box............DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's the point of having up to the date technology if it isn't utilised?
Surely Peter Britcliffe can't spend all his spare time reading Accy Web, and sometimes checks out his own council's site?

His ego wont let him away from Accy Web. Proberly has a flunky checking it when he is otherwise occupied.

Re: Recycling/charity.
I have nothing at all against re-cycling as much as possible and do my little bit to help things along but has anyone done a study on how much energy is used in re-cycling rather than throwing away?

Re: Recycling/charity.
I phoned HBC's recycling helpline this morning to ask for a blue box and a blue bag, which I first requested when I moved in eighteen months ago. Fingers crossed.
I did mention that their site needs updating, and asked what happens to the collected textiles, shoes etc., and she said she would look into it.

Re: Recycling/charity.
I will still recycle my old clothes, shoes and household textiles to the charity shops. It is a valuable source of income for them and even the stuff that they cannot sell in their shops is sold to textile recyclers......so even that stuff generates a bit of income. My other stuff...glass, paper etc will continue to find its way into the HBC recycle bins

Would prefer to send my discarded cloths to the charity shops myself Margaret, but haven't got the time to 'traipse' down to them. Yes, I know they put their bags through the door and say will collect on such a such a day, but wish they would put the date on too, as get muddled up with them all, and think probably missed the 'will collect on Friday' collection date, so can't be bothered ! ... 2 behind my door tonight.
Their bags tend to finish up collecting rubbish now, I'm afraid, and, ironically, become part of HBC collection. ... not on my own here, friends and colleagues do the same.
Have been without a white bag for about 2 months now, 'cause they didn't put it back after a collection and have been using the charity bags to put in my paper ...still no white bag left, surely the refuse collectors must realise that I 'aint got one now ?? Perhaps they think I have used it for some other purpose and are holding back on their supply ?

Re: Recycling/charity.
The Cancer Charity Shop on Broadway will collect....and so do Age Concern...and I THINK the British heart Foundation do too.
They are very much dependent on donations, so that it is a pity they do not get your stuff. When I am out and about on my travels I will ask which of the charity shops pick up and what arrangements need to be made to pick up any donations....watch this space.

Re: Recycling/charity.
They asked us to save our card board for recycling, this I did and when Mick put it out did they take it?
Oh no,they did not.
What's the point.
This time the card board has gone in the flippin bin.

Ya' probably put it out on the wrong day ... I did that last week and realised at the last minute. Has to go with Black Bin ! Today, was pouring down and thought would be soggy and messy by the time they came, luckily, had room in my black bin and put it there on top. Have wondered, however, if they didn't notice and their automatic technology just chucked it in with the rest of the rubbish.
