If I hadn't given you karma pretty recently, I'd give you some more for that post.
I am all for an individual's right to choose for themselves - euthanasia for the terminally ill, advance directives and health care proxies for the rest of us. Modern medicine has many advantages, but it also can sometimes keep folks alive when there is no quality of live remaining.
When my wife passed away last year, she had a very specific advance directive, which made her wishes very clear. As her health care proxy, it was not easy to give the orders to turn off the life support, but it is what she wanted for herself. It still saddens me, but it was the last loving thing I could do for her.
