Riverdance Beaching…..

Most will have seen tonight’s news that a container ferry is beaching herself off the coast of cleveleys, just come back from having a look, she is very close to shore and looks very dramatic in horrendous conditions. No photos due to the conditions but the scene is well lit, Helicopters are over head and engaged fully in the rescue.

My thoughts are with the crew, life Boat and service personnel who are working in grave conditions, especially the Navy, RAF and Irish Coast Guard crews who are obviously fighting to keep their aircraft on scene. All these people deserve our gratitude and respect.

Re: Riverdance Beaching…..

There are two are three RNLI Boats standing off and monitoring the situation. Riverdance is listing which is stopping the boats getting in close. The sea is rough as hell with gale force wind hitting the coast. I wouldn't want to out there tonight, it was bad on shore just looking. I'm going to have another drive up in an hour or so just to see how things are. There's alot of people up there at the moment, I think every taxi in cleveleys is up there.......

I have a charity list for the business and the RNLI is on it. Any money that is given to staff or donated to the agency will be shared out between them. Has a country we would in deep do, do without these people.

7 meter high waves?

Get your Rainmate on and get back out there, and take some piccies.

Just don't go to near the edge, and be careful.

Thanks for the update. I wasn't saying everyone is out of danger, as you said, the rescue sadly still going on.

Re: Riverdance Beaching…..

Your report was much more exciting Kate Adie.

The BBC's is much more matter of fact, probably because they're safely tucked up in a warm office in west London.

BBC NEWS | England | Merseyside | Ferry runs aground at Blackpool

If the ferry does get beached, it might be just the attraction Cleveley's needs, plus it will double overnight the 5* star accommodation available in the area.

Re: Riverdance Beaching…..

Just been back up, the Police have closed all approach roads to the prom and cleared vehicals and on lookers from about a mile from the area opposite the beached vessel, there’s still a Helicopter on site and the sea state remains rough with strong winds hitting the shore, her deck lights are now off and she looks a grim and sorry sight.

I’m hoping that the police remain on site, there’s a chance of the ship rolling over and breaking up as the tide turns and the weather worsens, there are no containers in the sea at the moment but no doubt the scroungers will be mobilising to strip her of her cargo if they get the opportunity.

She is firmly aground now, (the ship, not Kate Adie) Like I said a sorry looking site, She looks a nice vessel and will no doubt make an attraction over the next few weeks, I hope she holds together and gets refloated (the Ship, not Kate Adie). Reports say that there's a risk of her breaking up which will just add to the crap already on the beach.

Re: Riverdance Beaching…..

Nice one Polly, You should have let us know you where heading over you could have had a brew before the trip back. She’s well ashore now and really close in, I only drove passed the bottom of the road this morning the police have the prom shut off to none resident traffic, hopefully to stop her cargo from being lifted.

You can bet that by midday today half of Liverpool will be on Blackpool beach looking for what they can nick and scavenge.
