Robbery - Altham

Not sure if this is the correct section for this post, but ill take the risk

Last thursday 29/12/2011 my parents had a break in, they live in Altham. It appears all the thieves did to break in was take a sledge hammer to the door and knock the bottom panel out (the new plastic type doors).

They mainly stole garden machinery with a value of £6000. When i talked to the police they said there was a known gang operating within the clayton area.

We missed them by a matter of minutes as the items they left outside were only slightly wet from the rain.

So please be very aware that there is a gang of thieving scum knocking about the clayton area.

I know its along shot, but if anyone is offered any Stihl equipment at very cheap prices please just double check its not stolen......It could well be!!....Thanks

I believe Stihl gear has serial numbers on, I'm sure there's one on my chainsaw.

Re: Robbery - Altham

Stihl equipment does indeed have serial numbers, i wrote them all down when i purchased the equipment. The problem is, Stihl in there wisdom and you do have to wonder why, have placed the serial numbers on stickers which can be easily removed. On Stihl chainsaws they are found on the kick back guard. On the Stihl stone saws the serial number is located on the lower left side of the machine. But there just stickers at the end of the day. Easily removed.

Hope the police catch these scroats, even when they do unfortunately our justice system will then let them free to do it all over again.
