Room for the clock to return?
I've just got back from Accrington, and noticed the cafe inside the Arndale centre has gone.
It did seem a bit of a daft place to have it, especially since you could smoke in there, yet you couldn't just over the otherside of the partition.
Anyway, the cafe has gone, and has been replaced by a few artfully placed benches.
I wonder if they'll now reinstall the much missed Arndale clock, in the empty space?

Re: Room for the clock to return?
I've just been into town but didn't have time to go as far as the Arndale. This is excellent news Rindy. I for one will certainly not miss that cafe. I do hope it can be possible to get the clock back. Perhaps now would be a good time to contact the Arndale centre owners again and bring up the subject. Unless of course they've moved the cafe because they already have plans for that space.
I wonder why I never thought to mention the clock to the guys on the market who are doing the revamp suggestions.

I bet they do some measuring and come to the conclusion that for Health and Safety reasons, or because the colour scheme no longer matches, or because we can't find where the clock is stored that.......
It would therefore not be practical to put the clock back in it's original position!
We could start up a fresh campaign to restore it and run an accyweb competition in parallel, 'The person that most accurately predicts the reason given, (as announced in the Obbo'), for why the clock can't be re-instated'.

Re: Room for the clock to return?
In the absence of Kipax I might try to find time to contact the Arndale owners and ask what their plans are - Mr, K. was the one who got to know that the clock was in storage and not working previously wasn't he? Maybe we could contact whathisname who made the clock too and get him on the case.

Re: Room for the clock to return?
We'd previously managed to have a clock with seats round the base and a display at Christmas. There was plenty of room.

Re: Room for the clock to return?
I suppose you could say that we already had a panopticon with that clock. People actually visited Accy to look at the clock and hear it play on the hour. It featured on postcards of the area. I'm sure if the creator had been contacted he could have got it going again when it broke down.

Re: Room for the clock to return?
I don't really know much about the clock, but surely it couldn't be that difficult to fix.

Re: Room for the clock to return?
Hang on, let me find my photos and maybe you'll see why it's such a big thing. It's not just a clock. It's an automaton.
