Re: Rover Cars

It's sad when people lose their jobs, but in the past Burnley,Accrington and other places had to go through the same change, with hardly a tear shed by the good folk of Birminham, people don't want the cars that Rover make! it's that simple! It's a cut throat industry and they are made cheaper some place else, but unlike most places that fall on hard times the Rover plant is slap bang in the middle of key seats in the election and unlike coal mine's, cotton weaving, fishing etc this is important to save! Why do you reckon?

Re: Rover Cars

People have a job to know who owns what these days. I'm sure most X Type Jaguar owners dont realize they are buying a posh MONDEO

Re: Rover Cars

I did know Lotus had been bought out, that was a slip, however, I would still consider it British in that it does all its design/build etc here and the Proton involvement is only from a financial POV. Having said that There are also a lot of other small manufacturers in teh KIT car scene who produce soem very nice motors.(Ultima, Quantum, DAX, etc)

That is disgusting. Some of the people where I work are on 4 day week because there is not enough demand for the products. Anyone have the phone number so I can get them on full pay?

Re: Rover Cars

You may need to consider that sending them home on full pay costs £6.6M a week, How much extra would it cost for materials/running costs of machinery etc to keep them in full production? It could be that they are trying to minimise the cost of 'maintaining' a workforce whilst trying to negotiate a deal with the Chinese.
