Re: royal birth.......
Well said willow..........must admit I am not a royalist but I do think they have a place in our country, and the Queen is the one who does the best job of all........no one can say that she doesn't fly the flag ( Union Jack ) that is.

The Royal Family is known as "The Firm" for good reason. They don't just sit there on their rear ends and have life handed to them on a plate. They are far more of an asset than a liability. Yes it's a far more lavish lifestyle than any of us on here are ever likely to have but I wouldn't want to swap. The Civil List is nowhere near as long as it used to be, and I agree with that. There comes a point where some lesser royals need to earn their keep because they are far less significant than those closest to the throne. I think it would be a sad day indeed if we ever became a republic.

Re: royal birth.......
The Monarchy Today > Royal finances > Financial arrangements of other members of the Royal Family
The Queen and Prince Philip are the only ones who get an allowance from the civil list. The others that do get an allowance are repaid by the queen.

She certainly is. So what's the point of keeping her and Phil the Greek in unbridled luxury in Buckingham Palace? Stick the pair of them in a home for the bewildered and open Buckingham Palace to the public full time and make some money out of the place.

It's also worth pointing out the the Royal Family employ people to work for them so those who want to scrap the royals would also be scrapping a lot of jobs.
