If he were any good at showboating, he would have accepted the allowance cut, and trumpeted his sacrifice all over Hyndburn.

Re: Royal Wedding - The poll.
No, Eric...when it comes to money this man knows that showboating takes a back seat.
The word 'Greedy' comes to mind.
When the rest of us are in the situation of making do with a lot less, he isn't prepared to give up any of his allowances.......well, after all he is a politicain...of sorts.

Re: Royal Wedding - The poll.
'There will also be a spectacular fireworks display on the evening of the Friday 29 April to celebrate the royal nuptials.'
'On Saturday 30 April, four newly appointed Freemen of the Borough will join local people who celebrate their wedding anniversary on 29 April at a celebratory lunch at the Town Hall. There are also a range of music events in the planning stages - we'll let you know more as things unfold.'
Royal Wedding And May Day Fayre On The Way
Shall we have another poll, open of course?
Guessing at who might be catering the butties at this shindig?

Re: Royal Wedding - The poll.
Since the much anticipated Victorian Swimming Gala was postponed due to 'bad weather', I wonder if this will see the expensive clowns attempting to dip another toe in the non-water, being nearly May, and make the trip over from Yorkshire?

I say 'expensive', that's all relative, I suppose.
Especially regarding the value of community art.
The cost of the Yorkshire clowns was only £2,500.00.

Perhaps they'll wear old fashioned red, white, and blue bathing costumes.
If the meagre budget will stretch that far.

Re: Royal Wedding - The poll.
Will you stop moaning about the Royal Wedding bash? I may disagree about Britcliffe on most other matters, but it is surely right to spend a few bob on this occasion. After all, other town in England will be doing so; it will no doubt, induce a feel good factor - like the 'Chilean Miners Moment' - give a boost to the economy and on top of which we all get a day off work (for them that do work, that is).
Can you imagine the TV coverage, if on that fateful day, the rest of the country is celebrating with flags, bunting, street parties, trifle and general drunkenness?
Meanwhile, the TV cameras flash up to Accy to show a bunch of miserly sour-faced baseball-cappers walking up and down in the rain spitting gum and with heads down and with dodgy dogs crapping in the street like a scene from a Lowry painting?
I know that only afterwards, I would have to hide my face here in London in shame.

No.
I guess we won't.
You'll just have to accept you're in a tiny minority on this one.
The vast majority of people thinking it a complete and an utter waste of money, at this particular moment in time.
Butties and bunting, or Yorkist mummers, a 'Spend, spend, spend' mentality is unacceptable to most of us, whilst we are seeing such drastic cuts in jobs, and local services.

Did you find the source of your own council's budget for the royal wedding celebrations yet, which you said was £240,000.00?
Purely so we could compare and assess, what fabulous programme of events have you planned in Tower Hamlets, to mark this occassion?

Which is a shame because while It may may a minority cause in Accy, it ain't elsewhere.
Still, I suppose that is one of Accy's charms, to be permanently caught in a time warp of '50's food,' 60's politics and '70's tat.

Save up your ration coupons and make a trifle, dress up as John Bull, wave your little flag, whilst watching the telly.
As long as you've paid for it all yourself, I'm sure we'll all hope you have a lovely day.

I certainly shall.
You stick to the Coronation Street Omnibus, which I think is on Channel 10 freeview. Later on, you can let us know how your day has gone and I'll let you know mine.
You enjoy!

Takes all sorts, I suppose.
He was rumoured to be, er...a little odd too.

Re: Royal Wedding - The poll.
Nah...not quite.
I've got a Restoration Party to go to.
350th Anniversary of the Crowning of Charles II, 23rd April 1661; the bash is on the Royal wedding day. Big buxomed serving wenches, lots of slap 'n tickle, etc.
You stick with your Cromwellian Puritism; no fun, no games, no nowt.
