Re: Rubbish - again!
Why don't they just do weekly rubbish collections like we get here, it would be a lot easier for you, and I don't see any reason why they don't, you pay tax on a weekly basis so should get weekly collections.

Don't start with daft ideas like that, I pay monthly and only for 10 months in the year ( Council computers can't devide by 12 ). ONce a month collections and then 2 months without a collection, no thank you .
Weekly collections for both recyclable and non-recyclable would cost twice as much money. It would mean 2 teams doing each house once a week.

Re: Rubbish - again!
Ha Ha you sure it's the computers that can't.
We have a weekly rubbish collection though neil, and despite what I say about recycling and not making rubbish, I do believe that it's needed, our recycling is collected fortnightly, well not mine, but the towns which also works well. We never get this situation of three weeks. The only time we get missed, is on a bank holiday, sometimes, but it's been years now. Think your council has major managment problems, I really do. Who is this britcliffe anyway, why does his name keep getting brought up.

Re: Rubbish - again!
Also got the letter plus calender etc. Am i right in thinking that we have to stop using the blue box for tins and start putting them in the blue bag? If so can't see why they have changed it.

I think you have missed the point mate. This is a one off due to collection changes. The only thing the refuse dept. could have done better was to explain in the letter about leaving any extra rubbish, due to the 3 week gap, in black bags next to your wheelie bin.

Re: Rubbish - again!
I haven't missed the point, the whole thread is about waiting 3 weeks for a collection, something we never have to do here. I think your neing sold short. If you had weekly collections you'd only have to wait 2 weeks like we do when we get our one offs, which is a big difference.

Re: Rubbish - again!
What was that about using blue bags instead of the boxes? I thought we were using the boxes for tins and bottles and the blue bags for plastic bottles just like we've always done. The only difference seems to be that cardboard now goes with the recycling collection rather than with the rubbish collection.

Re: Rubbish - again!
are you sure? cardboard usually goes in green bins with garden waste. paper goes in bags, everything else in boxes. Why do they tell you to put cans in a box but plastic bottles in a bag, strange ppl.

Errmm lets work this out mathematically.
For Normal 2 weekly collection.
3 weeks - 2 weeks = 1 week extra rubbish
For Normal 1 weekly collection.
2 weeks - 1 weeks = 1 week extra rubbish
Therefore we would still have 1 week extra rubbish if we were on 2 weekly or 1 weekly collections.
Therefore according to my calculations Madhatter is talking a load of rubbish.

Every council has a different scheme, doh.
Lambeth, Wandsworth, Glasgow and Hyndburn all have had different colour coding, I know because I've lived there. The common denominator being that most councils only collect once a fortnight, once they supply a supposed larger wheelie bin. So make the most of your weekly service whilst you have it.
If the blue boxes are now obsolete, do we have to try and ram it in the blue bag to recycle it?

Re: Rubbish - again!
I have rung the council this morning to clarify the what goes where situation.
Blue box - glass only
blue bag - cans and plastic bottles
white bag - paper and will now take yellow pages/phone books
plus textiles in new bag and cardboard to now be left out with the recycling!
So at the end of the conversation I asked her if she'd had a lot of calls querying this, she said yes loads.... so then I said well I wouldn't have needed to call but the website hasn't been updated with correct info!!!
Oh dear was her reply, I suppose I better let someone know! DOH!!!!!!

Figure they found the blue boxes were not big enough to take all the beer cans/bottles we dump and some possibly got blown away in the process, so had to do a split.
Have seen them overflowing. Not surprised we need a drink after trying to work out this new routine.
I think this is one of the funniest threads on the web at the moment.
Glad to see you are all taking the changes with such good humour

Re: Rubbish - again!
The difference being
Errmm lets work this out mathematically.
For Normal 2 weekly collection.
3 weeks - 2 weeks = 1 week extra rubbish, three weeks rotting and stinking, attracting flies, and rats
For Normal 1 weekly collection.
2 weeks - 1 weeks = 1 week extra rubbish, two weeks rotting and stinking, attracting flies, and rats
Therefore we would still have 1 week extra rubbish if we were on 2 weekly or 1 weekly collections. But an extra weeks worth of decay and smell.
Therefore according to my calculations Madhatter is talking a load of rubbish. and a load of extra smell and health risk.
