Every council has a different scheme, doh.
Lambeth, Wandsworth, Glasgow and Hyndburn all have had different colour coding, I know because I've lived there. The common denominator being that most councils only collect once a fortnight, once they supply a supposed larger wheelie bin. So make the most of your weekly service whilst you have it.
If the blue boxes are now obsolete, do we have to try and ram it in the blue bag to recycle it?
|
Yes every council is different, but I'm not on about the colour scheme, I'm on about that it's unusual to put cans and bottles in a bag. Bags fall over, and cans and bottles are round, round things roll away, down hills, into gutters. Thats just not logical. Round cans and bottles should be in a box not a bag. All the the other points I'm correct on as harwood red confirmed. We've had both a fortnightly greens collection and a weekly bin collection for quite a few years now, and no talk of changing it yet, other councils went straight to flip flop fortnightly collections when then green bin was introduced(ours is green in colour but by green I also mean green waste, food grass hedge) we've got two boxes one for cans one for bottles, although when they collect they tip them together then seperate them again on the lorry for some reason, a bag for paper, and the two wheelie bins.

Why are you getting so excited about something that does not even involve you? This is a one off exercise not a regular occurance. Have you nothing better to do with your life than moan about problems that have no impact on you at all?

Have seen them overflowing. Not surprised we need a drink after trying to work out this new routine.
I think this is one of the funniest threads on the web at the moment.
Glad to see you are all taking the changes with such good humour

Think i'll need more than one drink come Thursday morning, if i have to start rooting through my blue box for the cans. Either that or drink more wine then i don't need as many tins, as my blue bag is always full. One consolation though is that i had my bin emptied last Friday and they're coming again this Thursday. ( So if anyone wants to pay for extra bin space feel free, open to highest bidder.)

Re: Rubbish - again!
OK let's get our facts right about this.
Blue box - for glass bottles and jars.
Blue sack for plastic bottles and cans (this is different because cans used to go in the blue box)
White sack - paper
Green sack - textiles
Green bin - garden waste (but not everybody gets one of these.
Compost bin - compostables (for personal use, not for collection by council.
The plastic bottles and cans do indeed fall out of the bag and roll away, the plastic bottles also blow away on a very windy day up here. It just isn't practical but hey we're talking about HBC here so do we really expect practical? At least we aren't being asked to put the breakables in a bag (yet).

No impact, strange, first I'm told enjoy weekly collections while I can cos it'll change, then I'm told it will have no impact on me. Make your minds up.
I'm not the one moaning about having three weeks of rubbish, I'm just saying if you pay council tax, you shouldnt have to store it for two weeks which is a regular occurance let alone three.
Also how can you say it doesn't affect me, do you know for a fact that i won't be visiting someone up there that week.

Following this thread I worked out that I`d have three weeks rubbish to put out tonight, but as Sara points out they collected last Friday... when I didn`t put my bin out!, so, can I still put my extra bags out tonight or will I be interned by Councillor Scaife and her rubbish thought police.

Re: Rubbish - again!
Still can't work out what you do with broken glass ?? Used to put in separate box with big label stating 'BROKEN GLASS' ..couldn't have our refuse collectors cutting their hands, ya' know .. need them for week after. Anyone know this? have big carton full of the stuff, mainly broken wine glasses.
Well, noticed this morning 50% of my road got it wrong ... I feel smug and awarded myself brownie points for getting it correct (I think) was emptied AND put back down my drive, bless 'em.

Re: Rubbish - again!
I've just realised I will have three weeks of rubbish before the next collection.
It's a good job it's just my and my wife, and our five kiddies, as the lid is already having to be clamped down.

Re: Rubbish - again!
Well I put the wheelie bin out this morning as it is supposed to be collected today. It will be 4 weeks on tuesday since it has been emptied. All our non recycleable rubbish is in it. No extra black bags needed and the lid is closed. In fact there was still a little space left in it.
It was very heavy but I am sure the machine will lift it, it has been heavier when it was part full of building rubble . I am a little concerned if it will empty or not when they tip it upside down. I have been compacting the rubbish into the bin with a spade for the last 3 weeks and the sides of the bin were starting to bulge out

Re: Rubbish - again!
Today is supposed to be catching up for the strike so everyone should be back to normal collections next week. That is of course if you know what day is which collection.
