School No Need To Turn Up.

According to The Daily Telegraph 25/9/06, pupils at a school with one of the worst truancy records in the country are introducing twenty four hour teaching, 7am until 10pm, and online throughout the night.
The head teacher at Bridgemary Community Sports College thinks it will help pupils learn when it pleases them most, what does the forum think?

They have recognised a problem and are trying there best to fix it. Good luck to them. Other schools who do not have the same problem will not be doing it so no need to worry.

Re: School No Need To Turn Up.

Twenty four hour schooling? Hmm.. They must have a perfectly reasonable explination for it. But yeah, I hope it helps with the truencies.

Its nice and flexible. I'd certainly want that if I could get the chance! But I am unsure if it will actualy make the truants work.

Re: School No Need To Turn Up.

Sounds like truants getting there way. Don't think kids nowt to learn will be helped much. Better to have authorities enforce the laws or hold parents to account. How bout havin teachers go to the pub and carry on there lessons. That may please the truants.

Again they are trying to accomidate truants. Instead of punishing the parents make the truant resposible by law to turn up and if they dont into court and off to a secure school (state school run like a public residential one) were they have to learn because there aint anyway not to be there.

Re: School No Need To Turn Up.

Does anyone know any figures? Are people not going to school at all, or are people going to school then escaping again?

At my school (Mount Carmel, left in 2004) they would get out of the gates and play truant.

It depends which is the most common as to how to tackle the problem properly I guess.

Re: School No Need To Turn Up.

Was the big fence put up around the grounds of Moorhead to keep all the inmates in untill lousing time? If so thats one hell of a way to stop kids bunking of class after going to registration.

Could always tag the blighters so they can be traced.

Re: School No Need To Turn Up.

One classic "escape" was to set off in the crocodile to the baths and just not bother going back again afterwards. The teachers went by car so no supervision there and back.

Bring back borstal I say!
