School Uniforms. Well Done ASDA.

Just got to say Well Done to ASDA that has saved me approx £15. I usually get all my sons uniform from Abbey Street but struggle to get his pants because he is such a big boy ! lol. Now had i bought his pants from them this year he would have had to have a mans pair of black pants at approx £15. Asda did them (38" Regular) for £7 and a plain white shirt for £3 (17 1/2 " collar) told you he is a big boy ..lol.

So chuffed with Asda/s price im going back today to get him some more pants and another white shirt !

The only thing I wont buy from asda are the polo shirts. I once bought 4 from asda and everyone of them shrank in the first wash.

never bought polo shirts ,,but last year i got shorts,tops and a couple of skirts,,they were good value, and they do bigans and whoppers (in laymans terms extra large ,,,my size ...

Surely the title should be "Well done China"? After all, thats where all this gear is coming from now (O.K....some may well come from Poland/Brazil/India). ASDA/Walmart are simply using their massive bulk buying power and retailing the stuff, no doubt with a hefty margin on their part.

I only hope you find the quality of their clothing lines is somewhat higher than the rest of the rubbish they sell in their stores. Like all the supermarket chains, they may well offer apparent low prices, but at the cost of driving out small, independant buisnesses and in turn reducing our once-proud town centres into economic wastelands.

Glad you got a bargain Chrissie........ and Slinky, you should have taken the polo shirts back....... whatever anyone says about ASDA, they are spot on if you are not satisfied, or if something goes wrong......no quibble.......money back, and usually a voucher too for goodwill.

I'm well aware of that Margaret....I'm outgrown mine. The point is though, the credit for cheap school uniforms (and tellys, and computers, and furniture, and household fittings) lies with the fact we have increasing trade with China and similar developing countries and that these places are able to competitively manufacture this stuff by paying their workforce peanuts.
Whether or not that workforce is happy with their income status is another matter; were it not for this supply, then ASDA would simply not be offering cheap products such as this and there would be a larger manufasturing industry in this country.

I have to say the quality is fab and the trousers are teflon coated so help with wear and tear and also no ironing!!!! (thats my fave bit).

marks and sparks are just the same paying there workforce peanuts and they sell there clothes twice if not three times more than asda. asda is brilliant as long as the product does what it should do then no one can really complain.

So, Tealeaf.....I take it that you pay top dollar and avoid the bargains.
Well, it is Ok if you can afford it......but I grew up in a family where it caused my parents great problems to kit us out in School uniforms.
When you haven't got the money you really don't have the choice of being picky about where the goods are made, or the morals of big business.

On the contary....when it comes to clothes, I am hostage to no fashion, merely price. - although I will say in terms of quality I find Mataland better in terms of pound-for-pound quality (it may be that Mataland does not offer school uniforms).

I am quite certain that if smaller, independant retailers were to get their act togeather and form some type of purchasing co-op then the same 'bargains' could be made available in places like the town centre. I doubt however, with the strength of the supermarkets, that is ever likely to happen.

Well I'd hardly call matalan a small retailer T!!!! As for uniforms there, the quality is not as good as asda and the price is comparable.

Last school year I ended up having to buy my 7 yr old three school uniforms which consists 3 pairs trousers 3 polo shirts & 3 sweatshirts as he had 2 major growing spells and 1 change of school! I bought it all at Asda (except sweatshirts) because its cheap good value for money. I have been able to pass them on to a friend for her little boy as they were still in good condition.

I have been on a wander round town today looking at uniforms and the only other place to compete price wise with Asda is Europa (used to be job centre) they too sell teflon coated trousers at £4.99. Ethel Austin are doing polo shirts at two for £2 though I dont know about the quality or how well they wash.

Greatest thing that has happened for school trousers. Des anybody have a kid that can stay clean at school for a week. I know mine finds it impossible.
