Seasonal Work

I see from one of the pappers down there that Express gifts had trouble finding local people to do the seasonal work that they have. They have recruited a third of the required number from eastern europe to fill the staff requirements through agencies. I did not realise that there were so many jobs around Accrington that people could or would not apply for a job there. Christmas is just round the corner and yet some will not take this work to boost there income for the festive period. I did agency work for 3 years and had no problem with it as the company as in the agency classed me as full time with them so I was given the benifits that go with it. Is there a stigma on seasonal agency work or are people looking for something that pays a lot more? At the end of the day some work is better than non and with the topups from central govenment can be worthwhile so were did it all go wrong?

Re: Seasonal Work

I know someone who went for an interview there in July. After the interview one of the panel showed him the way out, and said to him he could do better then work there, and that he would be treat like dirt. Also the reputation they have is one that they deserve. Luckily he got offered another job so didn't need to take it.

Re: Seasonal Work

Been there, done that and agree with Chav1, Express Gifts shamelessly exploit the people who work for them. The conditions are awful and the pay is worse.

Re: Seasonal Work

If it affects their benefits what is the point of them working for six weeks before Christmas when they won't get much more money and they'll have to go through the whole process of claiming again straight after Christmas?
