You're missing the point, I can still buy a camcorder. I just can't use it for certain things that are not permitted such as the two events you just mentioned. But I can still use it elsewhere.

In the same way that sick stuff should be banned from Second Life, but the rest of people should be able to use it still.

i think if you can get every parent to sign a consent form you can film nativity plays of your kids but realy you shouldnt have too

Oh sorry I thought you said .... Yes I'm pretty sure I can still use a camcorder, however I can't use it to break the law, well I can, but I'd get prosecuted.

You wouldn't be breaking the law, recording a kids sports event.....still can't use the equipment though.

The owners should get done, for not policing there own site properly.

If they're not removing it once it's reported then yes they should.

Youtube works in the same way, with 10hours of video uploaded every minute it's impossible for them to monitor everything, but as soon as stuff is reported it's removed.

then perhaps a suitable way for such sites to run is anything uploadable the person doing it should submit Name @ Verifiable address before being able to. that i reckon would go some way to helping solve this problem?

Yes, maybe forcing people to sign up with a credit card on second life would A) ensure they're 18 and B) have some form of address.

Obviously people can get round this by stealing their mums or other peoples cards, but its impossible to close all loopholes unfortunately

agree n what i can't reckon up is its so easy to implement, i have had to submit name n verifiable address to deal with certain businesses on the net, so see no reason why these siteowners can't/won't.

It also assumes the parents aren't paedophiles but a lot who are found seem to be from a family background, not the creepy guy living on his own which we tend to stereotype them as. So it wouldn't necessarily stop the paedophiles if only parents where allowed to film anyway.
