That used to be the case but not now. The school does not know if you put them as 1st 2nd or 3rd.

Ah that's interesting, one of the schools in the admissions book when Kelsey went actually stated that it wouldn't consider pupils who hadn't put it as first choice, think it was one of the grammar schools. Think it was worded something like " if your child passes the entrance exam but we weren't the first choice priority will be given to others who passed the exam and did put it as first choice" ;it then went on to give you percentages showing how this worked in practice and basically you were stuffed as there were so few places and you didn't put it first !

St Chris's used to be like that as well. I am not totally convinced they still will not know because the actual method of selection has not really been made public.

Thats not possible though when everyone wants their kids to go to the same school. They have to use some method of selection. People used to move close to good schools when they used distance as the main selection method. You then got people moaning that they lived on a rough Council estate so could only send their kids to the school near by that was full of all the rough kids. That is the main reason they changed it I think. Now other people are moaning for other reasons.

They will never please everyone until they sort out the root of the probem - there are still good schools and bad schools. The bad schools need to be sorted out.

Whats got to be a bit demoralising is when you are a teacher at a school thats at the bottom of everyones selection list and you know that come September you are going to be facing a new bunch of societys retards/rejects...... wonder if they ever feel they missed a step on the career ladder

A few kids at my lads school did not get their first choice, even though they met all the required criteria and live closer to the school than other kids that got in.

Are we still talking about St Christopher's?

That school is shockingly over subscribed. If the lads have met all the criteria, i.e going to church regularly and still not got in then what's going on? Is it now so over subscribed that they are having to look at how long people have been attending church?

On a slightly different note (I don't usually go off topic so please excuse me) I did hear a kid say the other day that she did not need to go to church on Sunday now she has got her place at St. Christophers

Not mine by the way, they all went.

I'd love to know how they check, at the churches associated with my schools I dont recall there being any register that you had to sign...

I went to catholic schools but I dont recall them checking my church attendance. Probably quite a good job too because I didn't come from a religious family, so I'd have had a job with that at primary school

and I think the idea of a 12yr old going to church by themselves is weird so even high school woul be a bit strange too... it's so abnormal that I imagine the regulars (who are slowly becoming extinct) would actually frown upon it and accuse you of being up to no good!

I've never met anyone who didn't get into the school of their choice. I think people who have gone to a religious primary school have it easier because when you leave there the nearest religious high school EXPECTS you to go there.

St Christophers aren't being overwhelmed with christians, they're being overwhelmed with the best pupils because it's the best high school around and gets the best results. I hate to be a bit shallow but it also has quite a nice uniform and I bet some people pick it for those reasons too.

Out of interest do these problems occur the same with primary schools? Because obviously they can take even less students on per year...

The faith criteria has nothing to do with the child, it is the attendance of the parent (I think - but not often).
