sell by date ?

how many of you stick religiously to the sell by date on food stuffs:
I just went to make a brew and noticed the milk was out of date by one day:
Even thought it smelt ok , and tasted ok: I did not enjoy my brew psychological I guess or is it?

Re: sell by date ?

Oh God no! If it smells ok and hasn't got green stuff growing on it, it goes in my belly mtheads always pulling me up for it

mthead: Don't eat that it's 3 week out of date
me: smells ok
mthead: It'll make you ill
me: Ah it'll be right!

...... and I'm still here

Re: sell by date ?

I have the opposite sometimes - a thing may not actually be past its sell by date but if it looks a bit dodgy then I won't eat it.

Some things if they have gone over by a day and look fine then I will. After all how far into the 24 hours does it become inedible? Does it change on the stroke of midnight?

Re: sell by date ?

I thought the sell by date was only a guideline for the shops so they take it off the shelf ..... or knock it out cheap, as is the case with one of our local shops

Re: sell by date ?

I'm with tinks on this one. If it smells/tastes alright i'll slog into it. Heck even bread with mold on it will I consume. If it's really bad, I just go ahead and toast it.

The rest of the family is quite particular in this regard.

I always ignore the sell by dates, and just use the sniff and poke test, and I'm the picture of good health.

Mick doesn't care how out of date something is so long has it smells and tastes ok.
Me I'm funny about these things, same has Grego if i know somethings out of date then if I do eat/drink it then I don't enjoy it.
But then again when it comes to food I'm a funny so and so.
