Should all newspapers have a corrections and errors column?

The Daily Mail and other Associated Newspaper titles have just launched a corrections and clarifications column. I think this is a good idea and all papers to follow there lead.

What do others think about it?

Here is a link to it Corrections and clarifications | Mail Online

Re: Should all newspapers have a corrections and errors column?

I think a better idea would be to put real news in em, instead of all this junk about Big Brother,X-Factor, n celebrities, i would probably start buying em regular again then.

Media lies are endemic - correcting a few obvious ones will give a false illusion of honesty.
Hence - this is just a Google Page Ranking excercise.

It's not a case of following their lead; The Guardian has had a corrections column for years. However, with that pinko-gay-muslim rag, there's nowt worth correcting - it's all rubbish.

Notice they have the corrections next to eye-catching head-lines about celebs -to distract the reader perhaps...

Would that be The Guardian that is the pinko-gay-muslim rag then?

I read a number of online newspapers and they all exhibit some form of political bias...well except perhaps for The Independent....I don't think that paper knows who to be biased in favour of. Quite understandable, as they are all much of a muchness.

In the printed version of the paper it is at the foot of page 2.......under a political story.

I rather like The Guardian - read it when I'm over at my aunt and uncle's as they take it. It has a great arts section and a good quick crossword, as well as well written articles. My dad reads the Daily Mail -but the decent stuff in there, apart from Scrabblegrams and the Word Wheel take about 5 minutes to scan...never tried The Independent...

Re: Should all newspapers have a corrections and errors column?

Some people think the internet should all be free but the only website that does not need to make money is the BBC because they are funded by taxation. I think it is very iffy that they use license fee money to provide web services as it is anti-competitive to all the other media services. I wonder if we will end up with the BBC news site being the only free one left.

I think that the Telegraph is the only one who charge at the minute, although its rare I look at any other paper on line but the Mail so there may be more now
