The word 'bankrupt' or 'near bankrupt' is very emotive phrase when in fact they were not near bankrupt, yes they had a deficit but at no point near bankruptcy. Also, the Council was in debt when the Conservatives were in last, admittedly nothing to repair it when Labour were in but in debt nontheless.
You may have an argument with the Labour leaflet but it's using legitimate figures taken from a reputable source whilst the Conservative leaflet is using emotional phrasing and claiming Central Government initiatives as their own. So let's face it - both as bad as each other and draw a line under it.

The clear difference being the Labour leaflet had completely misleading figures where as the Conservative ones told it how it was, the council were massively in debt and this has now been turned around.
The energy thing was not central government, read Jaysay's response.

So, take a look at this link - is this not central government?
The Pension Service - Winter Fuel Payments
Plus, if it's such a big Council thing why is there nothing on HBC website? You'd think they'd want to brag about it rather than point you to the central governement site.

The clear difference is that you're very blinkered and can't accept that politics is politics and both parties are both putting a spin on things in their own way.

I haven't seen any conservative spinning of figures as yet. All I have seen is a desperate attempt by Labour to con people into thinking we have an expensive council.

Re: Should Graham Jones resign? 'labour group leader'
It says
Energy Saving Grants
If you are 55 or over Hyndburn Conservatives have introduced a grant that will help you to insulate your home. Conservative Councillor Brian Walmsley said "This is a great deal and will make a positive difference to older people."
He added that "It is not means tested and anyone over 55 can benefit."
I will not scan it for you. Weren't you out canvassing, did you not read a copy of the leaflet that you were handing out?

Sorry I misread what you wrote. The winter fuel payments are completely different to energy saving grants.
Winter fuel payments help people over 60 pay for fuel so they can keep warm in winter. The council energy grants are for improving energy efficiency are they not?

Of course I read it but wanted the exact quotation, thankyou. As I've just wrote the winter fuel bill and the council energy saving grants are completely different.

Re: Should Graham Jones resign? 'labour group leader'
So more digging
Energy Efficiency Grants - Am I eligible?
On the leaflet it says everyone over 55, yet on the Council's website it says over 60.

Thats what you call....Political Bullshine
This thread is looking like that at the moment.
Students and wanabees will learn a lot and get bored out their skin with politics.
I think it has been established that Graham should stay as labour group leader......where the thread is going beyond that...who knows
