Not a valid point lancsdave .. was only meant to be temporary but at least you can go up there and see the whole of Paris which is wonderful, and does obviously generate great interest and income. Also they have built lovely surroundings around it to make it an extremely pleasant place to visit. Not stuck on a windy moor.

I'll grant you that. I will pop and have a look, maybe get some piccys at ground level.

Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
Well I quite like it,and I like the one in Blackburn that has massively enhanced and made safe a structure that would otherwise become even more dilpidated and unusable. So there !

Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
I don't think it ruins the landscape at all, in fact I think it should be a little bigger.
Walking up the path towards it when it's making it's tune and seeing the scenery in the background I think is fantastic. IMO it fits in perfectly and gives the area more beauty.
My only bad points about it, it's too small and should be named something else.

Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
It could certainly do with a better name. It sounds like something out of TellyTubbies with that name!

Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
Yet another waste of money by the arty farty brigade. Are they allied to the PC brigade? The blessed thing doesn't even work. They were saying on Radio Lancs the other day that it was too windy so it wasn't making the right sort of noise. They've stuck it in wrong place up there if they don't like wind.

Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
Obviously they need wind because otherwise it won't make a sound at all but that was the wrong sort of wind. They don't want noisy wind, or very strong wind.

Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
I'm sorry but I need to put a stop to this right away. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the noise that it is making - it is doing precisely what it was expected to do.
It is a wind sculpture - it makes a different noise depending on which direction the wind is blowing in and at what strength the wind is blowing at. There is no design flaw or fault in this whatsoever. That is one of the interesting things about it - the wind is meant to affect the sound!
The launch day was the windiest day ever but that does not mean that it was not working correctly. It was working perfectly.

Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
The money spent on this piece of 'three dimensional' graffiti could have fed a few hungry mouths, housed a homeless person or contributed to our NHS. It is high time this professional 'wooly hat' brigade was kicked into touch, the only thing they are succesfull with is the ability to obtain public funds to squander on such rubbish as this.

Would you say the same thing about money spent on teaching art in schools, including any sort of music?

If this is art i'm Piccaso, in my humble opinion it is nothing less than blot on the beautifull landscape, to answer your question garinda i'm not against any form of art or otherwise, it is putting them in stupid places. The 'men on formby beach' are where they should be, this collection of scrap welded exhaust pipes would make a perfect partner. Obviously a great deal of time and money was spent teaching said 'artist' to WELD.

Well, having seen this particular 'object' I cannot understand why anyone would ever object to a wind turbine being placed there instead, the turbine would look far more pleasing, be of some practical use and generate far less noise for people to object to.
In comparison to this pile of old sewer pipes a wind turbine is the ultimate piece of 'art'.

Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
"Singing Ringing tree"?
Turn the piccy upside down and what do you get? A carbuncled foot inside a sweaty, holed sock, stuck on t'top of t'hill. How much has the taxpayer forked out for this nonsense?

Hang on a minute Gayle - maybe you should direct your comments to Radio Lancashire because they were the ones who reported that it was too windy for it.
I think the wind turbines are quite attractive too.
