Come on Gayle, can only look at the piccies we are presented with, and will not definitely pass too strong an opinion until I have seen it with my own eyes .. but you getting what you wanted ... controversy.
Burnley Web led me to this picture which is another angle, and still doesn't look the same as the original either to me, straws or no straws

Did put it in my junk file temporarily .. Only joking honest ..

Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
Superb photos K.S.H. We've only been up there the once and it was very foggy. Strange that it wasn't singing though in spite of the wind. Maybe they should have used organ pipes.

Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
It does sing, honest.
Thing is we were in a no-win situation - we consulted with people who lived underneath it for about a year before it was built and the main thing that they were concerned about was the noise, especially as noise can travel, so the sound was modified - now the other side are out, saying it's too quiet.
The tree makes a wailing low eerie sort of noise. It is perfect on a day that is neither too windy or too still.
Just for the record, the tree has done exactly what was hoped - it has gained publicity in a positive way for the town. It has just been nominated for an international architecture competition, it has been published in magazines in Washington and in Holland so far, it is on Flickr, MySpace and YouTube and has been seen by 1,000s and 1,000s of people worldwide already. It was also the winner of picture of the month for Accrington Camera Club I noticed in this weeks paper.
If only other councils or residents had been able to take that same leap of faith.

Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
Yes, Shillelagh and it's a good job it's the last to be built as it will completely overshadow all of the others and steal their thunder. I've got a stack of press enquiries from magazines who are waiting for it to be built, along with culture programmes on the TV and photographers who are interested. One local business man, has spotted the opportunity and has bought loads of web domains with Halo in the title.

Oh, it says your location is Accrington in your post so that's what threw me.
Yes, we've been watching the halo.I took some photos of it when we spotted it in Haslingden. There's quite a good view of it from Haslingden Old Rd up the top of here. That and the SRT are far better than the atom which looks like a slug riddled potato and that awful painted stripes thing in Corporation Park Blackburn.
