Re: Smoking ban........
Just seen this one - I thought one of the biggest causes of pollution, which I would defy anyone to find a cure for - is the emmissions from the rear end of cows! I didn't make it up, I really did read it somewhere. What is the EEC going to do, cork them or eat them (but then red meat is of course bad for us).

Even if you turn vegetarian - you do the farting instead of the cows
Soya beans are the worst for that

Re: Smoking ban........
I don't know how people cope with being vegetarian. If a diet has to be supplemented with vitamens, minerals and processed foods surely it mustn't be good for you? I'd rather risk a pork chop than live on those vegetarian foods you buy at health food shops.
I know so many stupid girls that have gone vegetarian thinking its a healthier lifestyle with no proper idea of how to go about it and fallen ill because of the lack of iron they've been getting.
I have one friend who doesn't eat carbs and she said mashed potato makes people fat. I must eat a huge plate of the stuff at least once a week with PLENTY of butter (yum yum). Why are people so naive about food? You can eat anything you like in moderation and proportion. Everyone dies one day, so you might as well eat what you like. As long as you dont over indulge, you're fine.

Re: Smoking ban........
Vegetarians should not just stop eating flesh and think 'that's it'.
They need to research the protein values of beans pulses and cereals, and which ones to combine in the same meal to achieve the same protein content as meat and fish.
Iron is in eggs and spinach too.
We would be a healthier nation if we took more interest in what we eat.
Hopefully the reintroduced school cookery lessons will include some food science as well as cooking skills.
I recommend 2 books-
Diet for a Small Planet - and - Recipes for a Small Planet
They are good guides to being vegetarian and staying healthy.
PS just realised that this is a bit of a thread wander.....sorry

What do you mean by 'reintroduction'? When did they stop teaching cookery? I only left school just over 2 years ago and cooking was compulsory til year 10 then you could choose whether to do cooking or woodwork/electronics etc.
Everything I cook at uni I learnt at school Least something was useful

Re: Smoking ban........
Amazing, i never realised that. Ah well, it must be catholic schools being ahead again lol (thinks back to previous thread on 'parents')
I love cooking. The girls who I live next door to have been on their PGCE placements and one of the girls teaches at a primary school that has a full week of the term just doing cooking. Think thats a really good idea. I only remember cooking on pancake day at primary school and once as a project one year and we had to design and make biscuits and all the packaging and stuff. Again, a catholic school, though it wasn't something we did often. I also remember tasting coconut in reception class.

Re: Smoking ban........
was asing 2 landlords last night about the effects of the ban, or any positives, both told me that contrary to the no smoking lobby bullsh1t, neither had had 1 new customer who was a Non- Smoker since the ban, both were well down in takings since implementation of it.

I heard that too cashy, I also heard that some pubs are having to work ways round it, was in a pub in rossendale a while ago, after 11 oclock, as soon as the last non smoker left, the doors were locked and the ashtrays came out, have to say that, if my livelehood depended on it, I would have done the same, publicans rock!!!

Re: Smoking ban........
im afraid more and more pubs and clubs will close
because of this draconian measure No Smoking the government
will never admit it is the reason however as a non smoker i find myself
stood at the bar by myself while the wife goes for her regular walk outside
its ruined social life in pubs etc

Re: Smoking ban........
why go to a pub where you have to stand outside to smoke and freeze to death when you can get a couple of tinnies from the offlicense and sit at home?
