Re: smoking in the car with kids
Many landlords will not have smokers as tenants.
I can understand that they do not want their property to smell of tobacco, but there are natural wholesome ways to avoid all household smells.
People with flatulence are more obnoxious

Looks that way Bernie, as a none smoker it was a good move for me, but I do have sympathy with people who like a fag with their pint, I know I used to. Can't see why pubs couldn't have a designated smoking room with extractor fans taking the smoke out of the building, that to me would have kept everybody happy

Karma for that Jaysay, If my perception of you is correct, I believe you are an ex smoker, and also may have been seriously harmed by the effects of yours, and other people smoking (until proved otherwise anyway), as such, your understanding of the needs of some smokers, is a credit to the common sense you possess!

There probably is Accyman, and it needs sorting, but, isn't that a different subject/thread altogether?! you can help those that are overweight, to lose weight, you can't clean out their lungs from breathing in smoke fumes!!

Thanks derek, I'd never nag anybody to give up smoking although it has not done my health much good, I just think there should be a bit of common sense used and smoking areas to me would have been the answer rather than an all out ban. People make their own decisions in life and we don't really need the nanny state taking these decisions out of peoples own hands

John I would have more respect for their decisions (be it Labour, Tory or whoever happens to get into power that makes it) if they just banned tobacco sales completely if they were so concerned about the adverse effect passive smoking can cause. Now as we all know NONE of them will do that because of the loss of taxes paid on these products. If and when any of them are brave enough to fetch a complete ban on tobacco sales I might gain a bit of respect for their preaching. Won't hold my breath waiting though

Re: smoking in the car with kids
Nearly all student accommodation at lancaster uni is non-smoking now. You get fined if you are caught smoking in your room. There will soon be no more smoking-allowed accommodation and the students will be expected to go outside.
I don't think it is unreasonable. Nicotine stains on the ceiling isn't very nice to look at and sometimes non-smokers do get put in those rooms sometimes. I feel for them!

You can't decorate student accommodation. Plus most student accommodation has those ceiling tiles that are made of polystyrene. Not the easiest things to clean.
You aren't even allowed candles in student accommodation so I don't see why they should allow smoking. Both are fire hazards, and cigarette smoke has the added problem of staining the ceiling, annoying neighbouring students and making everything stink. Is it really that much to ask that smokers go outside to avoid these problems?
