Solution for Outside The Town Hall.
Many of us have complained on here about cars driving through the bus route. Have a look at this video. HBC should install these outside the Town Hall and stop this problem once and for all. The video is worth a look just from comical value

Re: Solution for Outside The Town Hall.
I seem to remember these being mentioned some time ago. At the time the council said that they were to expensive to install. Not just the price of the bollards, but also the cost of fitting the sensors to all the emergency / council vehicles. Not to mention of coarse the cost to the bus companies.

Re: Solution for Outside The Town Hall.
I have to say that IMO, Corporation St in Manchester is all the better for having these. We were crossing Corp. St. on Sunday and there is no longer any need to be dodging cars in the rain. It's much better for pedestrians and should be considered here. I'm sure that these will become the norm in most pedestrianised city centres.... I certainly hope so

Re: Solution for Outside The Town Hall.
I saw this system in action when we went to Newquey this year, I think it would be a good idea for Accy centre, it'd make it much safer, I think the buses would kick up a fuss though.

Re: Solution for Outside The Town Hall.
The council bemoan the cost and so would others so are they say that a life is cheaper? Its time that all those involved said yes we will do it on the grounds of public safety. If it was a young child that was hit and killed as a resultof it being used as a rat run what happens then?

I have argued publically for 18 months for these at several public meetings.
Excuses against them are as listed above on a previous post. Plus we are advised they are expensive to maintain?!
The District Council has just messed around without any ambition. It's now with County and PB is upset because he no longer is in charge of the issue. I think like with the Bus Station we will see a lot of progress now Hyndburn Council are in the back seat.

Do we have any idea how much 'expensive' is?
I personaly think this is a great idea. I am fed up of having to dodge cars that shouldnt be there. It angers me to think that they just drive through there knowing full well they are enterting a pedestrian zone which only allows buses.
Would it be against the law to stand in the middle fo the road and block it? Because.. technicaly it isn't a road .. as long as you let buses through would you be arrestable?
I feel more strongly on the issue because my dad was run over in front of the town hall a few years ago by some idiot coming through. (Also hadnt updated his car tax etc because he was never traced even though they had the registration number)

Re: Solution for Outside The Town Hall.
I think a web cam should be put up. Then put it live on the web. Us people from Accy can watch the web cam and if we see a car going past town hall, take the picture and send it straight to the police. Hehe that would get the buggers. Oh how much fun we could have on here.
" yeah well last night I cought 10"
hmmmm " I got nine between 8pm and 11pm"
Could be a good competition

Re: Solution for Outside The Town Hall.
I've just been having a look on the internet at the cost of the bollards. The cheapest that i've found are £3000 each, the most expensive are £20,000 each. The company that makes the expensive ones, range from £6000 - £20,000. The price is for supply and fitting. Each set of bollards would require a receiver unit costing £110, & every vehicle authorised to use the bollards requires a transmitter costing £25 each.
As for the repair. The company claims that the bollards are maintainance free for at least 4.5 million cycles. They can also withstand being hit by a 7 ton truck traveling at 30 MPH, so the vandals would have a really hard time trying to destroy them.
There probably cheaper options somewhere, i'll keep looking.
